Shaun White Says Wedding Planning With Nina Dobrev Is Fun
Shaun White may be a five-time Olympian and retired snowboarding legend, but when it comes to wedding planning, he admits he’s completely out of his league. In a recent chat with PEOPLE, Shaun, 38, opened up about his engagement to actress Nina Dobrev, 36, and how planning their big day has turned into one of the most exciting chapters of his life.
“It’s like you took that next step and yeah, it’s just a fun sort of planning phase of life,” he said, adding, “Like, ‘What’s the next steps, and the next chapter and where do we want to be?’ It’s fun. It’s fun to have somebody to plan all that with.”
Shaun proposed to Nina in October 2024 during a romantic trip to New York City, and while the couple doesn’t plan to rush down the aisle, they’re slowly diving into wedding details — with one important thing still missing.
Shaun shared, “So we’re still just looking for a planner to plan the wedding. I’m not capable of this and luckily, like, I want to be involved, but logistically I’m not, it’s not my strong suit. So I think visually I’m getting involved with what I want, but we’re still looking for someone to help bring our ideas to life.”
Shaun shared that wedding talk has become the center of their conversations lately, and he’s loving it.
Although they haven’t done anything specific to officially celebrate their engagement just yet, Shaun hinted that Nina’s friends might be secretly planning something for her. “She’s not easily surprised,” he said.
When it came time to tell family, Shaun said the reaction was pure joy. “Oh, everyone was thrilled. It was such an easy sort of like, ‘Oh yeah, well that makes sense. Basically it was like, ‘Oh, yeah, yeah.’ So yeah, no, everybody was definitely encouraging and super supportive and that’s always nice,” he recalled.
As the couple takes their time finding the perfect planner and working out the details, Shaun is staying grounded — thanks in part to his new health kick. He recently partnered with Grüns, a gummy supplement brand focused on gut health, and says the vitamins are helping him keep up with travel, planning, and staying active.
