Taylor Swift’s Dad Recovering Following Heart Surgery

Taylor Swift has been hitting some emotional notes lately, and it’s not just on stage. Behind the scenes, her dad, Scott Swift, has been recovering from a serious heart surgery and Taylor hasn’t left his side.

Scott, 73, underwent quintuple bypass surgery a little over a month ago after doctors discovered something concerning during a routine check-up. Thankfully, it wasn’t due to a heart attack, and according to PEOPLE, the surgery went well. Scott is now steadily recovering with his family (Taylor, her brother Austin, 33, and their mom Andrea, 67) right beside him through every step.

Quintuple bypass surgery may sound intense, and it is. According to the Mayo Clinic, the procedure involves creating five new routes for blood to flow around blocked arteries, often using healthy vessels from the chest or legs. It’s serious business, but it’s also life-saving, and Scott is reportedly bouncing back strong.

If you know anything about Taylor’s close-knit relationship with her parents, this family support isn’t surprising. The Swifts have been a tight team since Taylor was a little girl singing karaoke and performing at local gigs near their hometown of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.

Back in 2009, Scott told UDaily how proud he was of his daughter’s early love for music. “She was always singing when she was 3, 5, 6, 7 years old,” he said. “It’s Taylor doing what she likes to do.”

And while the Blank Space singer has grown into a global superstar with record-breaking tours, Grammy trophies, and a Time Person of the Year title, her family remains her grounding force.

In fact, both of her parents have faced major health scares. In her 2019 Elle essay “30 Things I Learned Before I Turned 30,” Taylor shared that both her mom and dad had battled cancer, which taught her to value what really matters in life.

Though Scott keeps a low profile, fans caught a glimpse of his big heart literally and figuratively during the Eras Tour. At a London show in August 2024, he went viral for handing out chicken tenders to fans mid-concert. A TikTok user, Stephanie Niemiec, captured the wholesome moment: “Scott handing out chicken during [‘Style’] somehow makes sense,” she joked. She even thanked him on video, saying, “The chicken is fresh.”
