Lindsey Vonn Shares Difficult Recovery After Eight Surgeries in Nine Months
Lindsey Vonn has undergone eight surgeries in nine months after two serious crashes before and during the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. The skiing star suffered a torn left ACL, complicated lower-leg fractures and acute compartment syndrome caused by internal bleeding.
During her recovery, Vonn experienced constant pain that she described as the worst of her life. Opioids prescribed in Italy left her feeling nauseous and mentally foggy without bringing her pain under control.
After returning to the United States, Vonn found relief with Journavx, a non-opioid pain medication. Her experience led her to partner with Vertex Pharmaceuticals, the company that makes the drug.
Vonn is preparing for a ninth surgery to remove surgical hardware and repair her ACL. She is also working on a documentary about her injuries and recovery.
