Shakira Falls Mid-Performance In Montreal

Even a global superstar like Shakira isn’t immune to the occasional stage slip, but the way she handled it proves why she’s still one of the greatest performers in the world.
On Tuesday, May 20, during her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran Tour stop at Montreal’s Bell Centre, the Hips Don’t Lie icon found herself on the ground — literally — during a performance of her 2001 hit Whenever, Wherever.
As she swayed gracefully across the stage and was just about to launch into the song’s first verse, Shakira suddenly lost her balance. In fan-captured videos posted to X (formerly known as Twitter), she slipped sideways and hit the floor. But instead of panic or awkwardness, she got right back up with the kind of elegance only Shakira could pull off — and continued singing like nothing ever happened.
The moment quickly went viral online. One fan praised her resilience, writing, “She handled it like the boss that she is.” Another added, “…I hope she didn’t get injured. Such falls cause pain and injuries the next morning.” One user summed it all up in a single word: “Mother.”
Shortly after the concert, Shakira even shared the moment in a now-expired Instagram Story; proving she’s not just a superstar, but also a good sport.
But Montreal wasn’t the only recent bump in the road for the 48-year-old singer. Back in February, she had to cancel one of her shows in Peru after being hospitalized with an abdominal issue. She informed fans the following day via Instagram Stories, saying, “I am very sad to not be able to take the stage today,” and promised she’d be back soon. Sure enough, she recovered quickly and performed at her next scheduled show in Lima the very next night.
