Will We Ever See Ryan Reynolds as the Oscars’ Host?
Another year is quickly drawing to a close, and with the turning of the calendar comes awards season in Hollywood. Come 2025, Los Angeles will once again play host to the 97th edition of the Annual Academy Awards, handing out those precious golden statuettes that make or break the fortunes of Tinseltown’s players. Without a doubt, Ryan Reynolds is one of its biggest stars at the moment, and there’s many who think his easygoing persona and quick wit are the ideal qualities for the perfect Oscars host.
Reynolds has already had a busy year. He starred in the third Deadpool film, Deadpool & Wolverine, which went on to become a smash hit. The movie grossed $1.33 billion worldwide, mostly due to audiences’ desire to see Reynolds play his infamous “merc with a mouth” opposite Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, a practically superhero movie royalty at this point. The two stars shared an amazing camaraderie which was evident throughout their whirlwind promotional tour of Deadpool & Wolverine.
Toward the end of the tour, Reynolds and Jackman performed an impromptu hosting gig in front of a delighted studio audience. The pair guest-hosted an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live when promoting Deadpool & Wolverine after Kimmel was unable to make the taping. Their effortless banter sharpened fans’ appetites to see them repeat the performance on a grander stage.
Word on the street ever since, is that Reynolds and Jackman would be chosen to co-host the Oscars in 2025. Deadpool and Wolverine together—a dream team to take the mike.
Jackman already has prior experience in the role, after he took on hosting duties at the 81st Academy Awards in 2009. And fans have been rallying hard, practically begging the Academy to make it official.
Well, Deadline’s Pete Hammond finally decided to get the scoop straight from the merc’s mouth…
Responding to the buzz, Reynolds quipped “The Oscars, yes. This is something I really genuinely would love to do with Hugh. Yeah, we hosted Kimmel together.” He continued, “And they look like what you sort of hope the Oscars could feel like, right? A bit of a roast, a bit of a loose kind of enjoyable experience. And, you know, it’s getting harder and harder out there, I think, for telecasts like that to kind of exist, it’s tricky. So, one day I’d love to do that, I don’t know about this year, but one day, yeah.”
With several movie projects in the pipeline, four young children with wife Blake Lively, and stakes in several international companies, Reynolds appears to have his hands full enough to not be able to take on the duties this year. However, he’s hopeful hat one day, he will be able to take on the hosting gig and do justice to it in his signature style.
