Why Jeremy Allen White Was a No-Show at the Golden Globes Despite His Best Actor Award

Jeremy Allen White, the star of The Bear, stirred up buzz at this year’s Golden Globes. He snagged his third consecutive award for Best Actor in a Television Series (Musical or Comedy) but was unexpectedly absent from the glitzy event, leaving presenter Jennifer Coolidge to accept the award on his behalf.

It turns out the 33-year-old actor wasn’t brushing off Hollywood’s elite. He was simply busy with another iconic role on the other side of the country. PEOPLE confirmed that White was filming the much-anticipated Bruce Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere, in New York City.

Celebrity gossip hub Deux Moi spilled the tea on January 6, sharing a fan’s account of meeting White during filming. The actor was described as “super sweet” and reportedly shared that he “wishes he could’ve been” at the Golden Globes with his Bear costars.

However, White’s absence didn’t overshadow his triumph. Beating out industry legends like Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Ted Danson, White’s win solidified his standing as one of TV’s brightest stars. While he wasn’t there in person, his name was definitely on everyone’s lips, reminding fans why The Bear continues to dominate awards season.

But White has proven that he’s more than a one-trick pony. His leap from the gritty kitchens of The Bear to embodying “The Boss” himself, Bruce Springsteen, has caught Hollywood’s eye. The biopic, based on Warren Zanes’ book Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska, focuses on the creation of Springsteen’s raw 1982 album.

Even Springsteen himself has weighed in on White’s casting, calling him a “terrific actor.” “Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it,” Springsteen shared during an interview on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio. “He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize, and he’s just done a great job.”

For White, the journey to becoming Springsteen has been more than just learning lines and melodies. In a candid moment at last year’s Emmys, he revealed how meaningful this new role has been, especially with the support of Springsteen and his longtime manager, Jon Landau. “[The support] has made this whole process, I think, such an extra joy,” White said.

Meanwhile, The Bear continues to be a roaring success, with its third season racking up as much acclaim as its predecessors.

The Bear seasons 1 to 3 are available to stream on Hulu. Fans can look forward to seeing White channel Springsteen when Deliver Me From Nowhere hits screens in 2025.
