Why Eva Mendes Didn’t Pose With Husband Ryan Gosling on the Red Carpet
One of the highlights of the recently concluded Oscar Awards was Ryan Gosling’s performance. During his musical number, he wore an eye-catching pink, sparkly suit while singing “I’m Just Ken.” However, many were left wondering—where was his wife, actress Eva Mendes?
Though they were both at last Sunday’s event in Los Angeles, Ryan walked down the red carpet without her. The 43-year-old Hollywood star was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Barbie, but when it came time to pose on the red carpet, it was Ryan’s sister, Mandi, who was by his side at The Dolby Theatre.
Eva’s social media followers were surprised that the gorgeous 50-year-old actress was there. However, she opted to skip the glitz and glamor of the red carpet by heading straight for the backstage.
Instead of wearing the custom couture gowns expected from the women, Eva was far more comfortable and happier wearing a double denim outfit and a baseball cap.
Recall that the Ghost Rider actress previously talked about why she didn’t do red-carpet events with her husband when she posted footage from the move Place Beyond the Pines in 2011.
She wrote under the clip, “Magic is Real. We did not meet on set. The magic started way before, but here’s a little magic captured on camera.”
One fan left the comment“Eva, I want to be honest w u, but I hope Barbie will get through the Awards Season just to see you w Ryan. I know I’m selfish and probably a dreamer, but I will never stop to dream about it!!” (sic).
Eva responded and wrote, “You’re the best! What a cool comment; thank you. But we don’t do those things together…Like these photos I’ve been posting, I’m only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.”
The actress added, “Oh wait – for those who may catch me in a ‘lie’ – we were only on the red carpet together once when promoting this film.”
To reinforce her claim, Eva shared a video clip on her Instagram that showed her posing outside her husband’s dressing room. She captioned the clip with the Spanish phrase, “Siempre con mi hombre,” meaning “Always by my man.”
Eva and Ryan met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines, which they both starred in. They now have two children together.
Although Ryan lost the Best Supporting Actor award to Robert Downey Jr. for Oppenheimer, he definitely won everyone’s hearts for his epic performance.
After Ryan lost his chance at this year’s Oscar trophy, Eva shared another snap on her Instagram—this time a photo of her next to the same pink and bedazzled jacket that Ryan wore for his musical number. She playfully captioned the snap with, “You took Ken to the Oscars, RG. Now come home; we need to put the kids to bed.”
The caption was referred to their daughters, 9-year-old Esmeralda and 7-year-old Amanda.
Though the celebrity couple doesn’t have a lot of red-carpet photos together, it’s heartwarming to know that they’ve created a healthy and loving family as a team.
