Why Did Ariana Grande Skip the 2025 Grammys Despite Multiple Nominations?

The 2025 Grammys was a night filled with unforgettable performances, emotional speeches, and surprise wins. However, one major pop icon was noticeably absent: Ariana Grande. Despite receiving three nominations, including Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “The Boy Is Mine” with Brandy and Monica, Best Pop Vocal Album for “Eternal Sunshine,” and Best Dance Pop Recording for “Yes, And?,” Grande chose to sit this one out.
Despite skipping the Grammys, Grande had no problem making an appearance at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards in January. The pop star, who has been balancing music and acting, was nominated for her role as Glinda Upland in the highly anticipated Wicked film adaptation.
While she opted out, her Wicked co-star, Cynthia Erivo, was in attendance at the February 2 ceremony. Ervio even performed alongside Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Jacob Collier, Herbie Hancock, and Lainey Wilson as a tribute to Quincy Jones.
Why Ariana Chose to Skip the Grammys
So, why did Ariana Grande decide to skip music’s biggest night? It turns out, she’s shifting her focus—at least for now. Grande recently hinted at prioritizing acting over music, saying, “I was considering a mini-tour between the Wicked films, but I’ve decided to prioritize acting for now.”
She also teased a deluxe version of “Eternal Sunshine,” describing it to Variety as “a very special project.” However, she’s taking her time releasing it, adding, “I’m out there so much right now. I want to let my children miss me for two seconds. I’m excited to surprise them with it at some point, but I’m still mulling over the timing in my head.”
With her music career on a temporary pause, Grande is embracing a new chapter as an actress. Her decision seems to be paying off as she recently received her first-ever Oscar nomination for Wicked. Overwhelmed by the honor, she posted on Instagram, “picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to @theacademy for this unfathomable recognition. I cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise.”
A New Era for Ariana Grande?
While Ariana Grande may have skipped the Grammys this year, it’s clear she’s not going anywhere. With Wicked and an Oscar nomination under her belt, she’s proving that her talents extend far beyond music. Whether she returns to the Grammys stage next year remains to be seen, but it certainly seems like Ariana Grande is just getting started in Hollywood.
