When Will Squid Game Season 3 Arrive? The Latest Buzz You Need to Know

The hype around Squid Game isn’t slowing down, especially as the explosive season 2 finale left fans on the edge of their seats. As the South Korean phenomenon gears up for its third and final season, we share everything we know about the show so far.

(Warning: spoilers ahead.)

A Deadly Comeback

Season 2 saw the triumphant return of Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), the lone survivor of season 1’s high-stakes competition. This time, Gi-hun teams up with Detective Hwang Jun-ho to infiltrate and destroy the twisted organization behind the games. The enigmatic Front Man, however, takes center stage as the mastermind of this season’s blood-soaked challenges.

The finale delivered heart-pounding moments, including failed rebellions, shocking betrayals, and devastating losses. With such a dramatic ending, fans are desperate to know season 3’s release date.

While Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk hasn’t shared an exact date, he’s confirmed that season 3 is slated for a 2025 release. Hwang hinted at an announcement “soon” and suggested the final chapter could premiere as early as summer or fall 2025.

“After season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for season 3 soon,” Hwang revealed. “I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year.”

This timing would align perfectly with Emmy schedules. Season 2 is expected to compete for the 2025 Emmys while season 3 could be submitted for the 2026 awards, making June 1, 2025, the earliest premiere date possible.

What’s Next for Gi-hun and the Front Man?

Season 3 promises to pick up where season 2’s rebellion left off. Despite the rebels’ best efforts, their uprising ends in tragedy. Gi-hun’s closest ally, Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), meets a heartbreaking demise. Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed this was a calculated move to end the season on an emotional note.

“Audiences are definitely going to be shocked and very sad to see Jung-bae go,” Hwang shared. “He’s also the only person within the games that Gi-hun can trust and completely rely on.”

Meanwhile, the Front Man’s deceit reaches new heights. Posing as Player 001, he gained Gi-hun’s trust in season 1, only to betray him. By the end of season 2, Gi-hun remains unaware of this treachery and blames himself for the tragic outcomes.

Adding fuel to the speculation, a mid-credits scene shows the games continuing with new players and deadly challenges. Two giant dolls and a revamped version of “Red Light, Green Light” make a chilling appearance, hinting at what’s to come.

Hwang has confirmed that season 3 will close the Squid Game saga. “The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale, which will be brought to you next year,” he teased in a letter to fans.
