The Heartwarming Story Behind the “She Deserved the Purse” TikTok Trend

A heartwarming TikTok trend started by Denaesha Gonzalez has captured the hearts of moms everywhere. It all started when Gonzalez noticed a purse that had been placed back on a shelf in the baby aisle. Her first thought was that a mother likely sacrificed buying the purse to prioritize her child’s needs.

This selfless act struck a deep chord with Gonzalez, who shared her feelings in a now-viral video with the caption, “To the mothers who chose themselves last, you deserve the world.”

Her video, which has since gained over 25 million views, resonated with viewers and led to the creation of the #SheDeservedThePurse trend. As a result, moms and other TikTok users began hiding cash, gift cards, and words of encouragement in diaper boxes, baby formula, and other children’s products at stores to lift each other up and acknowledge the often-overlooked sacrifices mothers make.

Gonzalez, who is also a mother, expressed her amazement at the viral response, “Just to see how far it’s gone, it’s just been amazing. I’m really just grateful and amazed by the community that’s formed within the comment section of the video.”

Fellow TikTok mom Cecily Bauchmann, who has over 2 million followers, quickly jumped on the trend, buying a $100 Target gift card and leaving it in a diaper box along with a note that read, “Hey! You deserve that special ‘you’ thing. You are amazing!” While Bauchmann didn’t use the hashtag, her act of kindness further fueled the movement.

Another TikTok creator, Ariel Gottfried, shared her own emotional connection to the trend. Inspired by her late mother, who struggled to provide for her family as a single parent, Gottfried placed $50 bills inside baby items. “It’s just really inspiring seeing how the community can come together and actually do something good,” she said.

Sydnee Saucedo, the mother of a toddler, also joined the movement by leaving $50 gift cards with handwritten notes in baby aisles. “I want to make sure I give back,” she shared, emphasizing the importance of supporting fellow mothers.

Despite the overwhelming positivity, some individuals have unfortunately taken advantage of the trend by tearing open diaper boxes in search of hidden cash. This saddened Gonzalez, who responded by saying, “It hurts my heart to see that people have taken advantage.”

Still, Gonzalez’s initial message remains powerful. Her viral video has sparked a movement that celebrates the selflessness of mothers, reminding them that their sacrifices are seen and valued.
