Teyana Taylor Laughs Off Question About Boyfriend Aaron Pierre

Teyana Taylor may have walked the red carpet hand-in-hand with Aaron Pierre, but she’s not spilling any details just yet. The 34-year-old singer and actress stopped by the Today show on September 23 to promote her new film One Battle After Another. When host Craig Melvin mentioned her red carpet debut with Aaron at the London premiere a week earlier, Teyana smiled, blushed and dodged the subject with charm. “I get so shy and blushy, I just get so shy,” she laughed.
Pressed about how the couple first met, she responded, “Oh my God, it’s too early!”
Fans have been watching the two grow closer since February, when Teyana and Aaron were spotted chatting at the Fifteen Percent Pledge Gala. They fueled more rumors after showing up together at the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty in March, then kept the flirtation alive on social media for months. By June, Teyana made it official with a sweet Instagram post for Aaron’s 31st birthday, writing, “Cheers to Thirty-WON & many more wins around the sun. H’AP’PY BIRTHDAY Woody.”
Their relationship has even spilled into her art. Aaron appeared in the video for her June single Long Time and in her Escape Room visual album, released in August. Teyana, who shares daughters Rue Rose, 5, and Junie, 9, with ex-husband Iman Shumpert, seems to be balancing motherhood, music and movies all at once.
As for her latest acting role, Teyana stars alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro and Chase Infiniti in Paul Thomas Anderson’s thriller One Battle After Another. She plays a revolutionary fighting to survive against Sean’s ruthless military commander. Teyana recalled how surreal it was when Anderson personally called her about the part. In her words: “I never would have thought in a million years PTA would personally call me, so to get a call from him, he’s like ‘Hey, what’s up?’ And I’m like ‘Who is this? Who is this? This has been a long day,’ and he’s like ‘This is PTA,’ and I’m instantly like, ‘Hey, what’s going on? How are you?’”
The film hits theaters Sept. 26. Teyana also recently starred in Tyler Perry’s Straw, where she plays Detective Kay Raymond. Her character is a crisis negotiator who deeply empathizes with Janiyah (Taraji P. Henson), a single mother whose world spirals as she tries to care for her ill daughter.
Aaron, meanwhile, most recently voiced Mufasa in last year’s Lion King prequel and appeared in The Morning Show’s fourth season.
