Supermodel Gisele Bundchen Opens Up About Parenting Struggles After Divorce

Gisele Bundchen recently spoke about her parenting struggles after her 2023 divorce from NFL superstar Tom Brady.

While talking with Harper’s Bazaar during her cover girl spread for the February 2024 Joy Issue, the 43-year-old model said that life as a single mom comes with challenges.

Recall that Giselle was married to 46-year-old Tom for 14 years. They have two children together, 14-year-old Benjamin and 11-year-old Vivian. The couple eventually separated because they grew apart. Last year, Gisele told Harper’s Bazaar, “When I was 26 years old and he was 29 years old, we met, we wanted a family, we wanted things together. As time goes by, we realize that we just wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make.”

She shared that her parenting style had always been different from Tom’s. This led to tension between her and their children from time to time. Gisele admitted, “Sometimes, I get pushback, especially because now they’re in two different homes, and there are two different ways.”

The Brazilian beauty continued, “But I feel like I owe it to my kids because of what my mom taught me.” The model is determined to ensure that Benjamin and Vivian are equipped with all the tools they need to navigate the world successfully, confidently, and independently.

Gisele shared her beliefs on instilling value and character in her children’s lives, “The way you make your room, the way you organize and make your bed is the way you’re going to do your life. If you’re not learning here and now, then when and with whom?”

As a mother, Gisele already has several years of experience. She is a stepmother to Tom’s 16-year-old son, Jack, whom he had with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan. With Ben in his early teenage years and Vivian who will soon be a teenager, the entrepreneur model wants to ensure that her children become successful in their future careers and, more importantly, in their personal lives.

According to the model, she’s doing her best so that her divorce from Tom wouldn’t keep her from making their blended family work, regardless of what the media says about the two of them.

She explained, “I can’t really worry about what other people say about me because what they say about me is none of my business. It’s really their business that they’re trying to project onto me. If I’m going to be affected by that, I’ll never live my truth.”

Gisele, a wellness enthusiast, went on to say that seeing her parents struggle with their mental health issues as they aged was a turning point in her life and a huge motivator.

“I want to live the longest feeling the best that I can, but to achieve this, I have to make decisions today. You can have all the money in the world. If you don’t have your health, it’s impossible to buy it back,” the highest-paid model from 2002 to 2016 shared.

Gisele wrapped up her talk with the publication by expressing her gratitude through her social media account where she wrote, “Thank you so much @harpersbazaarus for having me and thank you @aliciadkennedy for a great conversation about life and my new cookbook Nourish!”
