Snoop Dogg Gets Real About Thanksgiving Plans With Grandkids: Costumes, Turkey, and Pure Love

Rap icon Snoop Dogg is known for his laid-back charm, but when it comes to family, the 53-year-old is all heart—especially during the holidays. During a recent episode of Let’s Go! with Bill Belichick, Maxx Crosby, Peter King, and Jim Gray, the father of four opened up about his Thanksgiving traditions, which now revolve around his growing brood of grandkids.

With nine grandchildren expected at the Thanksgiving gathering, Snoop described how he’s embraced his role as a doting grandpa. “I got like nine grandkids. So I really enjoy my time with them. We pull out jumpers and have little things for them,” he said, clearly relishing the opportunity to create a joyful celebration.

But don’t expect the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” musician to play it safe. “I get to be a character that day,” Snoop teased, hinting that he might ditch his typical Paw-Paw persona in favor of something wilder. “I may put on a costume and dress up and not even be Paw-Paw. I may be a character all day, maybe Buzz Lightyear or some—-, you know what I’m saying?”

The holidays are also a chance for Snoop to tackle some family-friendly cooking—although his celebrity friend Martha Stewart’s gourmet suggestions might be left on the back burner. “Martha sent me some s— that I don’t know how to cook,” he joked, adding that his Thanksgiving menu will stick to the basics: turkey, ham, stuffing, and dressing.

In his cookbook Goon with the Spoon, Snoop proved that he has some noteworthy culinary tips for the holidays. He shared through the publication that half a cup of Hennessy was his secret ingredient for delicious mashed potatoes. And while that may sound out of this world, people who’ve tried it have only had good things to say about the liquor-inspired dish.

When it comes to cooking, dressing up, and spending time with family, it’s clear that the 53-year-old loves his duties as a grandparent. Speaking to PEOPLE in September, he explained his commitment to going all out for his grandchildren. “Papa Snoop, that’s who I am, and I love being that,” he said. Whether it’s dressing as Baby Shark or He-Man for their birthdays, Snoop doesn’t hold back. “I be complaining, but I love it. I love being a grandpa. It’s an accomplishment.”

Evidently, Thanksgiving at Snoop Dogg’s house is as much about making memories as it is about food. With costumes, good food, and family at the forefront, the rapper proves that his role as “Papa Snoop” is one he takes seriously.
