Shakira and Wyclef Jean Celebrate 20 Years Of “Hips Don’t Lie” On The Tonight Show

Shakira brought the heat to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on May 6, 2025, reuniting with Wyclef Jean to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their global hit, Hips Don’t Lie. The performance was a vibrant homage to the song’s enduring legacy, featuring Shakira in a stunning red dress, dancing barefoot on a sand-covered stage, and joined by dancers in matching outfits.

Shakira, now 48, opened the number in dramatic style. She lay on the sand in her fiery red dress, then rose and began moving her hips just like fans remember. The signature sensual moves that helped make the song a global hit were in full display. Halfway through the electrifying performance, Wyclef Jean, 55, appeared to deliver his verse. As the beat pulsed, dancers in matching red dresses joined Shakira onstage, turning the performance into a visual celebration of rhythm and nostalgia.

The track, which originally featured on Shakira’s Oral Fixation Vol. 2, was a cultural phenomenon when it dropped in 2005. It shot straight to the top of Billboard’s Hot 100, US Hot Latin Songs, and US Pop Airplay charts, sealing its status as a timeless anthem.

In 2022, Shakira took to Instagram to celebrate Hips Don’t Lie hitting 1 billion streams on Spotify. “Wow! One billion streams for ‘Hips Don’t Lie,’” she wrote, proudly holding a commemorative plaque. “Thank you to @spotify for the plaque, to @wyclefjean for the collaboration and to all of you for your incredible support. One billion streams don’t lie!”

Spotify responded with a fitting comment: “This track will always be a bop 🔥.”

But Shakira isn’t just reminiscing — she’s gearing up for what may be her biggest move yet. After pushing back the North American leg of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, the Grammy winner is set to launch the new dates starting May 13, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Bank of America Stadium.

In a recent statement, the singer called the tour “the biggest tour” of her career.

“The production of my show is now also so much larger and unlike anything I’ve done before. As a result, we’re elevating my North America run from arenas to stadiums and the dates will be shifted to May 2025, right after my Latin American tour,” she revealed.

The tour celebrates her latest album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, and marks her first world tour since 2018’s El Dorado tour. Shakira will make her way across major cities including Toronto, Boston, Washington, Miami, and will wrap up in San Francisco on June 30, 2025, at Oracle Park.
