Sean “Diddy” Combs Arrested Following Federal Indictment

American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested in New York on September 16, Monday.

US Attorney Damian Williams published the following confirmation on X, “Earlier this evening, federal agents arrested Sean Combs, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY. We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”

The details surrounding Combs’ arrest have not been revealed. The Associated Press shared that the celebrity was arrested in a Manhattan hotel lobby and has been detained.

Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, conveyed disappointment with the development. “We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” Agnifilo told the press

Continuing, he stated, “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children, and working to uplift the Black community. He is an imperfect person but he is not a criminal. To his credit, Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges.”

“Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court,” Combs’ lawyer asserted.

The 54-year-old has been facing an assortment of legal challenges—eight sexual assault charges and raids conducted by the Department of Homeland Security. Last March, his mansions in Miami and Los Angeles were searched. Authorities have yet to confirm the reason for the raids but an anonymous source revealed that they were part of an ongoing sex-trafficking investigation.

The first lawsuit was filed by Combs’ ex-girlfriend Casandra Ventura in 2023. According to Ventura, Combs subjected her to over ten years of “abuse, violence, and sex trafficking.” In one incident, Combs allegedly beat her and bribed hotel staff for the security footage.

Combs and Ventura agreed to settle for an undisclosed amount a day after Ventura filed charges. Though Combs insisted on his innocence, a clip eventually surfaced showing Combs chasing Ventura down the hotel corridor, shoving her on the floor, and dragging her back to the room.

After Ventura’s lawsuit, eight more people stepped forward and accused the musician of sexual assault and/or sex trafficking.
