Rock Star Mina Caputo Opens Up About De-transitioning Back to Male After 13 Years
Mina Caputo, the frontman of rock band Life of Agony, has announced he is de-transitioning back to male after living as a transgender woman for 13 years. The 50-year-old singer, who is reclaiming his birth name, Keith, shared his deeply personal journey with fans, sparking conversations across the music world and beyond.
Caputo took to social media to break the news, expressing relief and pride about his decision. “Surgery has been booked to remove my fake breasts, and I will be lovingly living in my divine male self,” he declared. “I’ve cured my gender dysphoria. It took many years. A lot of walking through the fire, but I rose above my misunderstandings of my soul and my spirit.”
Facing the Critics With Honesty
The singer, whose bandmates and fans have stood by him throughout his transitions, addressed the backlash he’s faced online. “I’m making this video because a lot of people [are] throwing me shade, saying I look ugly, and I look like a man,” he said in a video post. “It’s like honey lamb, I am a man, I always was a man. You’re just not used to hearing authentic people speak. You’re used to people spitting lies at you about their identity.”
Caputo also revealed that his physical transition has been underway for years, as he stopped hormone treatments six to seven years ago. Now, with surgery scheduled for early 2025 to remove his breast implants, he’s ready to fully embrace his authentic self. “I feel so free. I’m very proud of myself,” he shared. “I wouldn’t wish gender dysphoria on my worst enemy. It’s one of the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever been through in my life, and I’m just so happy that it is f***ing over.”
Bandmate’s Support
His bandmate, Alan Robert, posted a heartfelt message under Caputo’s video, writing, “Proud of your journey and your raw honesty. Always here for you no matter what. We ain’t blood but we are real family.”
Caputo’s journey has been anything but conventional. Raised in Brooklyn, New York, he struggled with gender dysphoria from a young age. In a poignant interview with Rolling Stone, he recounted asking his grandmother why he couldn’t wear girls’ clothes to school. She responded with a warning that his grandfather’s reaction could be violent. “He’ll kill me,” she reportedly said.
