No Settlement With Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner Resorts to a Court-Ordered Decision
Celebrity couple Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are embroiled in a publicized and controversial divorce. For months, the two were at an impasse regarding the custody of their children. Though they seemed to reach an amicable compromise last year, it seems to have been temporary as the Game of Thrones actress has decided to speed up the divorce and let the judge decide.
The 34-year-old musician filed for divorce from the 28-year-old actress last September. It didn’t help when they started airing their dirty laundry in public. Eventually, people learned that Joe filed for divorce because he thought his wife was partying too hard and too often while he was left taking care of their children at home.
Things spiraled out of control and became ugly as they battled for custody over their kids, 3-year-old Willa and 17-month-old Delphine. Sophie wants the children to be home with her in the UK while Joe wants them in the US. So far, there have been no disputes about the property because the pair signed a pre-nuptial agreement.
At one point, Sophie filed a child abduction case against the father of her children, although it was dismissed earlier this year. Sophie claimed that her musician ex-husband was going against international law by refusing to let their children travel with her to the UK.
The pair finally opted for a mediation, partly to make their marital affairs more private. Last October, the estranged husband and wife agreed to a temporary custody arrangement after Sophie sued Joe. According to the agreement, each parent could have two weeks with Willa and Delphine. The girls could travel freely between the UK and the US where their parents were based.
Sophie insisted that England would be their daughters’ forever home. Based on their mediation, Joe brought them with him while he was on tour with his band while Sophie had them over in England for Christmas. The agreement remained in effect until January 2024.
Since their temporary custody arrangement, Sophie and Joe have maintained a relatively low profile and even stopped going against each other publicly. Sadly, the ceasefire didn’t last.
Recently, Sophie requested to “reactivate” and move on with their divorce court proceedings, which had been on hold due to their mediation. According t TMZ, they were unable to reach an agreement in the last two weeks. Sophie is now letting the judge end their marriage and decide who gets custody through a court-ordered settlement. But as they speed up their divorce, all their disputes against each other will again become public.
Although their divorce is still underway, both appear to have moved on with their love lives. The X-Men actress confirmed her new relationship with Peregrine Pearson, an aristocrat and property developer, last December. Meanwhile, Joe has also gone public regarding his relationship with pageant queen turned-model Stormi Bree.
Sophie and Joe two started their love story in 2016. They had a Las Vegas ceremony in May 2019 followed by a more lavish wedding in Southern France the next month.
