New Movie It Ends With Us Is Getting Publicity for All the Wrong Reasons
The just-released romantic drama, It Ends With Us, has gotten a lot of publicity lately but not for the talent of its cast, cinematography, story, or script.
Rather, multiple reports have been going around that its leading lady, Blake Lively, hasn’t been getting along with Jason Baldoni, the film’s director and the love interest of Lively’s on-screen character.
According to TMZ, Blake has been telling people that Baldoni made her feel uncomfortable while filming. Sources shared that Lively felt fat-shamed when Baldoni asked his trainer about her weight. For context, they were about to film a scene where he was supposed to lift her. Since the actor was concerned about a previous back injury, his inquiry was understandably more about protecting his back than counting her calorie intake.
Nonetheless, the blonde actress felt offended to the extent that the two have been going their separate ways while promoting the film instead of peppering the media with joint appearances.
Baldoni has even hired a crisis PR professional, Melissa Nathan, to help with public perception.
Unfortunately, Lively’s list of questionable offenses doesn’t end there.
The Gossip Girl actress was also reportedly offended when Baldoni kissed her for far too long during one of their love scenes.
In addition, Vox has alleged that the celebrity has been using the film’s media mileage to promote her brands, Lively’s hair label Blake Brown and her line-up of beverages under Betty Buzz. Given the consumers of these products, the 36-year-old has been marketing the film as a girls’ night-out type of movie.
In a TikTok video, she says to the camera, “Grab your friends, wear your florals, and head out to see it!” This isn’t exactly aligned with the movie’s tone and story which involves physical abuse. Some people have questioned if Lively is aware of the kind of movie she was part of.
During an interview or two on the red carpet, Lively also praised her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for her movie’s big rooftop scene without giving credit to any of her colleagues who worked on the film.
But why was Reynolds directing It Ends With Us? Apparently, Lively took the initiative to ask her hubby to direct some of the scenes on set.
All this buzz has made an old 2016 interview surface. The four-minute clip shows a reporter, Kjersti Flaa, congratulating Lively on her baby bump. Flaa then asks her about the gorgeous clothes they wore for the Woody Allen film Cafe Society.
Lively evidently took offense and responded, “Everyone wants to talk about the clothes but I wonder if they would ask the men about the clothes.” She then proceeds to humiliate the reporter by facing her co-star Parker Posey and chatting with her almost exclusively.
At the end of the day, it looks like no publicity is bad publicity. After all the brouhaha, It Ends With Us earned over $100 million at the box office during its first week.
