New Homeowners of Matthew Perry’s Estate Face Backlash for Posing by Pool Where His Body Was Discovered

Matthew Perry’s former Los Angeles residence has new owners, but fans are far from thrilled about the latest social media posts showcasing the property. The home, where the Friends star tragically passed away in October 2023, was purchased for $8.55 million by real estate developer Anita Verma-Lallian and her family. They recently moved into the Pacific Palisades house and shared pictures of their new home online.

Anita expressed excitement about the purchase, revealing that she instantly fell in love with the house. “We knew it was ‘the one’ and decided to write an offer on it immediately,” she wrote on Instagram. She went on to share how she was drawn to the home’s charm and promised to honor the positive aspects of Perry’s life.

“I believe every property has a history that we may or may not know about, and every home carries the energy that the current owner brings to it,” Anita explained. “We chose to honor the positive aspects of the previous owner’s life, his immense talent, and all the joy he brought to so many people.” She also mentioned that some design features, including the iconic Batman logo in the pool, would remain.

However, some fans were quick to criticize the family’s decision to pose for pictures by the pool where Perry’s body was found. The late actor’s last Instagram post showed him lounging by the same infinity pool just days before his tragic death.

“Did you have to take pics of the EXACT spot he was found?” one commenter wrote. “…it comes across as a bit sick,” another added, expressing discomfort over the attention being drawn to the spot.

Despite the backlash, there were those who responded more positively, with one fan writing, “It’s so cool to hear that you are keeping the Batman sign in the pool. It’s a great tribute to Matt.” Others wished the family well, hoping they would create new happy memories in the home.

Before his death, Perry renovated the home, calling it “heaven” and expressing his satisfaction with the property. Sources close to the actor shared that he was thrilled with his new space and had been living there in peace.

Perry’s death, which occurred after the acute effects of ketamine and subsequent drowning, shocked fans worldwide. One year later, his former home is still a point of interest for fans, attracting mixed reactions toward the new owners.

In the end, it seems that while some fans understand the family’s desire to honor Perry’s legacy, others feel uncomfortable with the way it is being done.
