Miley Cyrus Clears The Air On That “Flowers” Dress — And Jennifer Lawrence Isn’t Involved
Miley Cyrus wants everyone to know the truth about that golden dress — and no, it wasn’t aimed at Jennifer Lawrence.
When Miley dropped the music video for her hit single Flowers in 2023, the internet lit up with speculation. The opening shot showed her walking confidently through the hills in a dramatic gold Saint Laurent gown with an oversized hood and sharp ab cutouts. Fans were quick to point out the dress looked strikingly similar to the one Jennifer wore at The Hunger Games premiere back in 2012 — a gold lamé Prabal Gurung gown with ab cutouts of its own.
That was enough for fans to connect the dots. At the time of that red carpet, Jennifer was promoting the film alongside her co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth — who just so happened to be in an on-and-off relationship with Miley during that same period. And so, the internet rumor mill began turning, with whispers that Liam may have cheated on Miley with Jennifer, and that Miley’s glittering music video moment was a not-so-subtle jab.
But Miley just shut that theory down in the most casual way possible. While signing autographs outside Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a fan asked her directly: “Was your flowers dress a reference to Jennifer Lawrence?”
Miley didn’t miss a beat. “No,” she smiled, “but I love that dress of hers.”
As for Jennifer, she’s already addressed the rumor herself. During a game of “Plead the Fifth” on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the No Hard Feelings star was asked if there was any truth to the long-running gossip about a secret fling with Liam while he was with Miley.
“I would love to: Not true, total rumor,” Jennifer said, setting the record straight. She did admit that she and Liam once shared a kiss — but it happened long after his breakup with Miley. “So I just assumed that was, like, a coincidence,” she said about the lookalike dress.
Miley and Liam’s relationship was a decade-long rollercoaster. They met while filming The Last Song in 2009 and got engaged three years later. But after a series of breakups and reconciliations, they finally tied the knot in December 2018 — only to separate less than a year later. Their divorce was finalized in early 2020.
Now, everyone has moved on. Miley is happily dating musician Maxx Morando, Liam is with actress Gabriella Brooks, and Jennifer married art dealer Cooke Maroney in 2019. They now have two children together.
So, was the dress a secret message? According to Miley and Jennifer — absolutely not. It was just a killer outfit in a viral video… that happens to look a lot like another killer outfit from the past.
