Katy Perry And Orlando Bloom Split After Nearly A Decade Of Love

It’s officially over between Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. After years of red carpets, romantic gestures, and even raising a daughter together, Katy, 40, and Orlando, 48, have called it quits. PEOPLE confirmed the breakup following a report from TMZ and fans are already feeling the heartbreak.
The couple’s love story had a truly unexpected beginning: a fight over an In-N-Out burger at a Golden Globes afterparty back in 2016. As Katy once recalled with a laugh on American Idol, “I see my boyfriend’s hand – he wasn’t even sitting at our table – he just swoops in and he grabs it and I was like, ‘Hey that’s my burger!’”
It wasn’t long before the two went Instagram official, shortly after attending Cannes together that same year. But just when fans thought they were getting serious, the couple surprised everyone by announcing a split in early 2017.
Still, there was no drama. “We’re friends, it’s good,” Orlando told the press at the time. “It’s better to set an example for kids and show that [breakups] don’t have to be about hate.”
A year later, rumors swirled again when they were spotted spending time together (though sources insisted they weren’t officially labeling the relationship). Fast-forward to September 2018, and the two made their glamorous red carpet debut at the Global Ocean Gala in Monaco.
Then came the fairy tale moment: On Valentine’s Day 2019, Orlando proposed. “Orlando had planned this for a while,” a source told PEOPLE. “He wanted it all to be special.” Spoiler alert: it was. Katy revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he even asked her parents for their blessing.
In March 2020, the couple surprised fans again; this time by announcing their pregnancy in the music video for Never Worn White. Their daughter, Daisy Dove, arrived in August of that year, joining Orlando’s son Flynn from his previous marriage to Miranda Kerr.
Marriage plans were on hold due to the pandemic, but their bond remained strong. They continued cheering each other on professionally, with Katy attending the premiere of Orlando’s film The Cut in 2024, and Orlando proudly presenting her with the Video Vanguard Award at the VMAs that same month.
Katy often praised Orlando’s spiritual side. In an Apple Music interview, she called him “a real sage” and spoke about the balance they tried to find between their egos and their better selves.
But even with all that love and respect, life on the road seemed to take a toll. In January 2025, Katy spoke candidly to PEOPLE about the effort required to maintain a relationship while touring, including learning and practicing love languages.
“I’ve talked a lot about love languages and how important they are in learning your partner’s love language, and even if it isn’t your love language, tapping into that for them,” she shared.
