Katy Perry And Justin Trudeau “Have An Easy Connection,” Sources Say
Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau are giving everyone something new to talk about.
The pop superstar and the former Canadian prime minister, who were first linked over the summer, appear to be taking their relationship to the next level. Over the weekend, the pair were photographed sharing a kiss aboard a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara and sources close to the singer say their connection feels surprisingly natural.
“When she first hung out with Justin, she wasn’t looking to date,” a source tells PEOPLE, “but they stayed in touch. They have many shared interests and a lot of talk about, but Katy was navigating too many things to even think about dating then.”
The source adds that Justin, 53, has been “pursuing her since” they first met in Montreal back in July.
Per the source, “he even flew to California to see her during her tour break. They have an easy connection. She finds him attractive. He’s been very respectful.”
Neither Katy nor Justin has publicly commented on the romance, but their growing closeness has been hard to miss. Their story reportedly began when Katy’s Lifetimes Tour brought her to Canada over the summer. The pair were seen strolling with a dog through Montreal before stopping for drinks at Taverne Atlantic. Later that evening, they had dinner at Le Violon, one of the city’s most popular restaurants. Just two days later, Justin was spotted in the crowd at Katy’s Bell Centre concert, cheering her on from the stands.
At the time, a source described their spark as “instant.” “They are interested in each other,” the insider said back in August. “…but it’ll take a while to see where this goes. She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common … Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult.”
Justin finalized his separation from wife Sophie Grégoire in 2023. The former couple, who were married for 18 years, share three children: Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrian.
For Katy, the rumored romance comes not long after her breakup with Orlando Bloom, 48. The former couple, who share a five-year-old daughter named Daisy, officially ended their engagement earlier this year after nine years together.
Their joint statement in July read, “Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry’s relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting. They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.”
