Kate Winslet Reveals Adorable Nickname Jack Black Gave Her That Stuck

Kate Winslet, who played the lovable Iris in The Holiday, shared a heartwarming story that connects her to her co-star, Jack Black, even years after filming. During an advanced screening of her new film Lee in New York City on September 23, Kate, 48, was surprised with a sweet video message from Jack, 55.

In his message, Jack joked, “When’s Holiday 2 happening?” before adding, “You’re the best. How you doing? Anyway, I miss you. Love you.”

Kate laughed and revealed to the audience something special about Jack’s lasting influence on her life. “I actually have a little bit of a nickname on set. So my nickname is K Dub, and Jack started that honestly. Now on set, most people say K Dub. Or on Lee, shall they ask for Kate? Because there was two of us,” she shared with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz during the screening.

This nickname, given to her by Jack, has followed her throughout her career, reminding her of their bond.

In The Holiday, Kate’s character, Iris, swaps homes with Cameron Diaz’s character, Amanda, as both women try to escape heartbreak during the holiday season. While Amanda falls for Iris’ charming brother Graham (played by Jude Law), Iris finds herself connecting with the quirky and lovable Miles, portrayed by Black.

Kate also opened up about how The Holiday has surprisingly become a holiday classic for many fans. She told Jimmy Fallon during a February appearance on The Tonight Show that people now recognize her more for her role in the 2006 romantic comedy than for her iconic part in Titanic, especially during Christmas.

“And actually what’s so lovely is that mothers and daughters come up to me in the grocery store and they say, ‘Oh Kate, we just love The Holiday, it’s our little ritual at Christmas,’” she shared.

Despite the enduring love for The Holiday, rumors of a sequel were quashed in December 2022 when director Nancy Meyers denied that a second film was in the works. Kate herself also shut down the speculation, saying, “I promise you, not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that.”

Still, the idea of a sequel is something that Jude Law, who played Graham in the original, has embraced. In June, Jude told E! News that he “loves the idea” of revisiting his character and joked that Graham probably “still has cardigans and glasses,” and “is worried sick about his girls.”
