Josh Hartnett’s Rare Social Media Appearance Has Fans Begging For More

Josh Hartnett quietly slipped back into Instagram this week to promote his new action thriller Fight or Flight, then promised he’d vanish again for another decade. The 46-year-old star, who rarely touches social media, popped up on the movie’s official account on April 23 and made it clear he’s not here to binge the latest TikTok trends.
In a short video filmed from below, Josh’s face barely peeks into frame as the sound of fast typing fills the clip. On-screen text reads, “Me promoting my film before ghosting social media for another 10 years.”
In the caption, he joked that his team insisted on a “social media content day” even though he “don’t get any of these viral trends.”
Fans flooded the post with pleas for him to stay. “Please Josh, you need to come back (actually come back),” one wrote, while another marvelled, “I never thought i will see this.” Someone else quipped that 2035 is “shaking in its boots right now” at the thought of the actor’s return.
This isn’t Josh’s only cameo online. Last week he tried out TikTok’s “Approved Approved” meme, grinning as he gave the film thumbs-up for being a thriller and a drama — though he hesitated at “action movie” until someone mentioned “action on an airplane.” In another clip, he used the “U Know What Hell Yeah” sound to celebrate landing the role.
Offscreen, Josh and his wife, actress Tasmin Egerton, live a world away from Hollywood buzz. They raise their four children in the calm Hampshire countryside, a choice Josh explained to PEOPLE in 2024 that he just never really vibed with L.A.
“Hollywood is more than a place; it’s a state of mind,” he continued. “If you’re around people who are constantly talking about the movie business, your life is going to be pretty much one note. And I’ve never wanted that.”
He and Tasmin work to give their kids a normal upbringing and, frankly, wouldn’t steer them toward acting. In his words: “Not to make it too simplified, but I do think the industry is really tough on girls, and I don’t want that for my kids. I also think the industry is tough on actors. We’re always waiting for people to say it’s okay for us to do our job.”
