Josh Groban Jokes About “Musical Marriage” With David Foster At 75th Birthday Bash
Legendary music producer David Foster is 75 — and his friends and family were there to celebrate with him at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday night. The event, filled with top performers like Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bublé, and Jennifer Hudson, was a celebration of David’s massive impact on music. But for David, who joked about the tribute concert feeling like “his funeral while [he’s] alive,” it was also a time for some laughs and reminiscing.
One person who couldn’t resist a good-natured ribbing was Josh Groban. Josh, who’s had a long and close relationship with David, fondly referred to their creative bond as a “musical marriage.” On the red carpet, Josh joked, “He didn’t have any gray hair when I first met him. Neither did I, for that matter!”
David discovered Josh when he was just 16, helping the young singer kick off a career that’s now recognized worldwide.
Josh is busy these days himself, especially with the newest addition to his family. He recently became a dog dad to George, a West Highland Terrier, who’s reportedly got a knack for stealing socks. “…He’s very, very cute,” Josh shared, adding that the new puppy has been keeping him on his toes.
After losing his beloved dog Sweeney in 2020, Josh seems thrilled to have a new furry friend by his side.
Meanwhile, David’s wife, singer and actress Katharine McPhee, also shared her excitement about celebrating her husband’s milestone. At 40, Katharine said she felt like she and David are “cut from the same cloth” when it comes to their perspectives on aging. She explained, “It’s a big number. It’s exciting.”
“I welcomed my 40s, and David didn’t have any conversations about, like, ‘Oh, I can’t believe I’m 75,’ or I didn’t say, like, ‘Oh, I can’t believe I’m 40. I’m really mourning that,'” she added.
The night’s performances from industry powerhouses like Kristin Chenoweth and Andrea Bocelli highlighted David’s vast influence and long-lasting legacy. Josh summed up the sentiment perfectly, saying, “…he now has such an extraordinary body of work that he can celebrate and so many countless artists who owe their place on the stage to his ear and to his giving us a chance and a door to walk through.”
