John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s household may have a rising star on their hands! Their 8-year-old daughter, Luna, has landed a big role in her school’s production of The Lion King, and her proud parents couldn’t be happier. During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, John, 46, shared the exciting update, revealing that Luna will be playing Young Nala.

“She’s in third grade. She’ll be 9 very soon,” John said with a proud smile. “She’s doing musical theater at school. She’s playing Young Nala in Lion King.”

Chrissy, 39, first shared the news back in December with a heartwarming post on her Instagram Stories. To celebrate Luna’s achievement, she surprised her daughter with a giant balloon display hidden in the trunk of her car. In a video capturing the moment, Chrissy wrote, “Luna got the part in the lion king she wanted!! wasn’t gonna open the trunk if the outcome was different but YAYYYYYYYYYY!”

But Luna’s talents don’t stop at acting and singing — she also has a sharp eye for fashion. According to Chrissy, her daughter isn’t afraid to give honest opinions on her mom’s wardrobe. During an appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends, the Lip Sync Battle co-host admitted that Luna often critiques her fashion choices.

“Luna doesn’t like anything I wear, ever,” Chrissy told hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Dwyane Wade. “She doesn’t like cleavage. She’s very modest. Except, you know how kids nowadays will wear crop tops with big baggy jeans and stuff? She tends to do like masculine stuff, so with me, when I get dressed up, she’s just very … like, if she saw this, she’d be buttoning it up.”

John and Chrissy have built a beautiful family together, first welcoming Luna in April 2016, followed by their son Miles in May 2018. After experiencing a heartbreaking pregnancy loss in 2020, they were blessed with two more children in 2023 — daughter Esti in January and son Wren, who was born via surrogate in June.

Speaking about life with four kids, Chrissy opened up in an interview with PEOPLE about the challenges of making sure all her children feel equally loved. “For me, the hardest part is making sure the older ones feel loved and taken care of and just as special as the babies,” she said.

“There’s a lot of diaper changing and feeding and it seems like you’re coddling these two little babies and they’re not getting enough. I think any parent of multiple kids can understand that you want to make sure they still feel loved,” she added.

John, always a devoted husband and father, even channeled his love for his children into music. In August 2024, he announced his children’s album, My Favorite Dream. “I want our babies AND yours to find joy and inspiration and comfort from this music. I hope it helps them fall in love with music and helps them cope with all the worries and challenges they may have,” he wrote on Instagram.
