John Krasinski Named Sexiest Man Alive

John Krasinski Named Sexiest Man Alive

John Krasinski, popularly known for his role as Jim in The Office (US version) has been named Sexiest Man Alive by People

After receiving the bold title, Krasinski appeared in The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last Tuesday. Things were off to a funny start as Colbert comically said that he wanted to be the Sexiest Man Alive. Krasinski good-naturedly offered his sympathies.

The conversation drifted off to other topics. Krasinski shared his initial surprise at being elected, mentioning that his wife Emily Blunt laughed at the news. The down-to-earth actor added that he could never reach the same heights of sexiness as Matthew McConaughey who was awarded the title in 2005.

What Are People Saying About This Year’s Pick?

People has traditionally kept its nominees under wraps but rumors that Krasinski could be this year’s pick began circulating in October.

While his fans are happy to hear the news, social media is abuzz with People’s latest choice. Some observers pointed out that it was an unlikely selection, especially since there are other male actors who are enjoying greater popularity at the moment.

But this isn’t anything new. Each year, the public scrutinizes the media outlet’s candidate and suggests other men who they feel are more deserving. At the end of the day, it generates publicity and revenue for People.

“I’m not seeing it maybe I need another eye exam this year,” said a Facebook user.

Another responded, “No offense but how is he the hottest when we have Ryan Reynolds literally stealing our straight husbands….”

Others defended the actor. One netizen wrote, “To the commenters that don’t see it, he’s good looking and a loving husband and father and is funny and nice too. Being sexy is more than just looks !!!”

A Decades-Long Tradition

The Sexiest Man Alive title began in 1985 and has been around for nearly 40 years. The first to earn it was Mel Gibson. The unpredictable performer had a rather interesting interview with the news publication. He drank, smoked, insulted the movie he was supposed to be promoting, and informed the journalist outright that he didn’t want to be part of the interview.

People’s Michelle Green gave the story a mysteriously sexy spin by ending her article with the line, “And then the sexiest man alive slouches away, alone.”

That issue sold over 2 million copies, turning the highly publicized proclamation into an annual event enjoyed by the public, particularly women

Since its inception, the likes of George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, and Nick Nolte have earned the much talked about title.
