Jodie Foster Opens Up About Disinterest In Social Media
In a candid conversation at the Saturn Awards, renowned actress Jodie Foster shared her thoughts on social media, her latest project True Detective: Night Country, and her illustrious five-decade-long acting career. The 61-year-old actress, known for her exceptional performances in films like Taxi Driver, Silence of the Lambs, and Contact, received a prestigious life career award at the ceremony. Here’s what she had to say:
Jodie, who has never ventured into the world of social media, revealed that she would consider joining if it were all about “dancing and cats.” Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the awards ceremony, she expressed her fascination with social media’s positive fan reactions to her latest show, True Detective: Night Country.
She admitted, “I’ve never been on it, so there you go. I do look over other people’s shoulders on Instagram every once in a while because of course, dancing and cats. And if it was just dancing and cats, I’d be all for it.”
Regarding the online reception of True Detective, Jodie mentioned, “I don’t have social media, so I have no idea, but I have read the reviews, so I know about the reviews, and I know how I feel, so I feel incredibly proud of this one.”
She went on to express her pride in this particular project, asserting that it holds a special place in her heart.
Jodie plays Liz Danvers, a detective in Ennis, Alaska, In the fourth season of True Detective. Her character was tasked with solving the mystery of eight missing men at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station.
When discussing her early years in the industry, Jodie reminisced about her beginnings as a child actor, starting at the age of five with a role on Mayberry R.F.D. She described her journey as a form of film school, where she learned by observing and working with different directors. “This was my film school, so I was watching as a child, just watching the different directors that I worked with and trying to figure out how they managed to get the results that they were getting … and making the films at the same time,” she shared. “That was how I learned. And yeah, I feel like I learned from some of the best of them.”
The Saturn Awards also honored Keanu Reeves with the inaugural Lance Reddick legacy award, named after Reeves’ late John Wick costar Lance Reddick. The award recognizes not only an actor’s talent but also their character. Keanu, who was also nominated for Best Actor in a Film, joined Jodie in celebrating a night of excellence in the world of entertainment.
