Jay Leno Requests Conservatorship Over Wife Suffering From Alzheimer’s
TV legend Jay Leno has officially filed for conservatorship over his 77-year-old wife, Mavis, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
According to TMZ, the TV personality had already submitted the necessary legal documents so he could become a conservator of his wife’s estate. The particular details of when Mavis was diagnosed were not clear. Still, given that Alzheimer’s is a degenerative and progressive brain disease, Jay is likely looking after the best interests of his wife as early as possible.
Jay and Mavis have been married for over forty years. They tied the knot in 1980.
During Jay’s recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, he shared that people are encouraged to “marry the person you wish you could be” and that he was lucky enough to still be married to that perfect person.
The former TV show host was seen last December giving his Tesla Cybertruck a spin. The comedian is known for his love for cars. He is one of the celebrities who owns an extensive and impressive automobile collection in Los Angeles.
Eleven months ago, the popular late-night TV talk show host suffered a motorcycle crash which led him to break his collarbone and two ribs while cracking both knees. That wasn’t his only brush with death. Two months before the motorcycle crash, the engine of the car he was working on exploded, causing him to sustain serious burns.
Recall that last November 2022, Jay and his buddy, Dave Killackey, were working on his 1907 White Steam car when it burst into flames and blew up in his face. The two were working at Jay’s mansion when he suffered from that scorching and painful hit.
Dave recalled how Jay’s face was on fire and that he couldn’t see his friend’s face; all he saw was a wall of fire. He then helped make sure that the rest of Jay’s body wouldn’t be engulfed in flames. When he was confident that it wouldn’t, he proceeded to put out the fire in the vehicle.
Jay comically shared his version of events during an interview with Piers Morgan. He told his fellow host that he drove himself to the hospital after the accident before going home and leeting his wife know.
Sharing what happened next, he narrated, “I went to bed, and when I woke up, the pillow was melted to my face.”
He then had no choice but to get admitted to the hospital for third-degree burns. He was admitted for ten days at the Grossman Burn Center in West Hills Hospital. His wife looked somber as she was pictured visiting Jay.
While chatting with NBC News, his attending physician, Dr. Peter Grossman said, “Leno suffered relatively serious burns to approximately seven percent of his body including his face, chest, and hands.”
It was reported that skin grafts were among the procedures Dr. Grossman performed on Jay. The doctor removed the burnt skin and replaced it with skin coming from the skin bank. The medical professional also commented that “much of the thickness of Jay’s skin was injured.”
During the same interview with Piers Morgan, Jay admitted that the whole car exploding in his face was frightening, but then again, he was able to get a new ear out of it.
