“It’s a spiritual thing”: Lenny Kravitz Reveals 9-Year Celibacy

Lenny Kravitz recently said he’s all about love, but sex will have to take a backseat.

Say WHAAATTT?

The 60-year-old musician revealed he is saving himself for someone special in a new interview with The Guardian published Thursday, May 30.

The pre-eminent multi-instrumentalist told the outlet he hasn’t been in a serious relationship for almost a decade. The superstar added that he’d love to do a 180 on that, but he’d probably have trouble adjusting to the new lifestyle.

“I have become very set in my ways, in the way I live,” he explained.

Kravitz made it clear he wanted to remain celibate until he found his lady love.

“It’s a spiritual thing,” the Hunger Games star justifies.

In 2008, the “American Girl” rockstar opened up about this decision to Maxim

“[It’s] just a promise I made until I get married. Where I’m at in life, the women have got to come with something else, not just the body, but the mind and spirit,” Lenny, who was once known as a sex symbol, shared at the time. “It usually trips them out, but that’s the way it’s going to be. I’m looking at the big picture,” he elaborated.

Recently, the “Fly Away” singer got personal in an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, where he confirmed he was looking for someone special.

“But I find that when you don’t look is when you find it,” he shared.

“And I’m at a place where I’ve said this for several years, ‘I’m ready. I’m ready. I’m ready,’” he said enthusiastically. Lenny then goes on to say he wasn’t ready at the time, even though he thought he was, adding “But I can say that I’ve never felt how I feel now.”

Lenny was married to The Cosby Show alum Lisa Bonet from 1987 to 1993. The pair divorced two years later but remained amicable.

The “Always On The Run” singer reflected on his relationships in his memoir Let Love Rule. He associated his struggles with his father whom he caught cheating on his late mom when he was young. He wrote that after his short marriage, he was becoming more like his father.

“I was becoming a player”, he admitted before adding, “I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to be that guy. So I had to tackle that and it took years.”

According to Kravitz, he achieved his goal by “not letting my own desires take over.”

And it looks like it’s working. Lenny mentioned how he maintains an unbreakable bond with ex-Lisa Bonet in Peoples February 2024 cover story.

“The love doesn’t leave you,” he said. “I am what I am because of our experience, because of everything that I was, everything that she was and everything that came together,” he added.

The star also told Esquire that he came close to marriage a few times. “The desire has always been there,” he confessed. “The tools in which to do so have not always been there.”

More than three decades after his divorce, he acknowledged he wanted to get married again. “I’ve grown enough. I’ve become stronger. I’ve become more disciplined. I’ve become more open to be able to do so,” Kravitz said.
