Is Katy Perry’s Pop Era Over? Controversial Comeback Album Sparks Debate

It seems like Katy Perry’s chart-topping days might be fading as the pop sensation faces mounting criticism over her latest music comeback. The “Teenage Dream” hitmaker has found herself facing backlash following the release of her seventh studio album, 143, and the start of her Lifetimes world tour.

Despite a career filled with candy-colored props and record-breaking hits, Katy’s new album has fallen flat, becoming the lowest-rated on Metacritic since 2011. Fans and critics alike have expressed disappointment with the music and her collaboration with controversial producer Dr. Luke.

“No Longer the Teenage Dream”

According to sources close to the star, Katy might be struggling to accept that times have changed. A source told The Daily Mail, “Katy is no longer the teenage dream anymore, and she needs to accept this. She announced that she is bringing her 2025 tour to the US after being advised not to do the tour at all.”

The insider added, “Her album absolutely tanked, and an artist should not do a tour from a failed album that bombed.”

Dr. Luke Controversy Resurfaces

A major point of contention in Perry’s comeback has been her decision to work with Dr. Luke, a producer whose name has been mired in controversy for nearly a decade. Fans were shocked to see his name attached to her track “Women’s World,” which failed to enter the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10 list and peaked at a disappointing No. 63 during its first week.

Dr. Luke faced serious allegations from pop star Kesha in 2014, including claims of sexual assault and emotional abuse. Although the two settled their legal dispute, his association remains polarizing, especially for Perry’s fanbase.

Some fans tried to defend Katy, suggesting she might have been forced to collaborate with the producer. However, during her 2018 deposition for Kesha’s lawsuit, Katy confirmed she had no contractual obligations to Dr. Luke after their three-album deal ended. When asked about the potential fallout of working with him again, Perry predicted it would be met with a “smear campaign” and protests.

Vocal Criticism Over Recent Performances

As if backlash from the album wasn’t enough, Perry also came under fire after her performance at the Capital Jingle Bell Ball in London. While the O2 Arena event boasted a star-studded lineup, Katy’s set left many unimpressed.

Social media was flooded with criticism, with one viewer bluntly stating, “She should retire.” Others called out her vocals, with comments like, “Weak vocals, huh,” and “Fun pop star but sounds terrible.” The harsh feedback has fans wondering if Perry’s recent struggles are a sign she’s losing her touch or just hitting a rough patch.
