“I Will Keep My Politics to Myself” — The Rock on Endorsing a Presidential Candidate
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will not endorse any presidential candidate this year.
In a taped interview with Fox News’ Will Cain, the actor made it clear that he would refrain from commenting on politics. In the clip posted online on Friday, it’s evident that things have changed for Johnson, who publicly supported Joe Biden’s campaign during the 2020 election for his “compassion, heart, drive, and soul.”
But Johnson won’t be repeating his endorsement of Biden this year. He said, “The endorsement that I made years ago with Biden was one I thought was the best decision for me at that time. I’m in this position where I have some influence and I felt it was my job then to exercise my influence [and] share: This is who I’m going to endorse.”
“I’m not going to do that.”
“I was then, the most followed man in the world, and am today, and I appreciate that… but what that caused was something that tears me up in my guts — which is division.”
Johnson, 51, continued, “That got me. I didn’t realize that then, I just felt like there was a lot of unrest and I’d like things to calm down. The takeaway after that was it caused an incredible amount of division. I realize now going into this election, I will not do that.”
“My goal is to bring this country together. I believe in that. There will be no endorsement.”
Further explaining his stance, the pro-wrestler turned movie star said, “At this level of influence, I will keep my politics to myself. It is between me and the ballot box. But I will tell you this: Like a lot of us out there, not trusting of all politicians, I do trust the American people and whoever they vote for that is my president and who I will support 100 percent.”
When asked whether he was happy with current-day America, he answered, “No. Today’s cancel culture, woke culture, division, etc — that really bugs me. In the spirit of that, you either succumb to that and be what other people want you to be, or you be yourself and be real … and that might make people upset and piss people off, and that’s okay.”
The Jungle Cruise star continued, “Do I believe we’re gonna get better? I believe in that – I’m an optimistic guy. And I believe we can do better”.
But will he give free rein to his political ambitions? Also no.
The pro wrestling legend may have teased a presidential run in a December 2023 interview with TODAY, but he says he’s not interested in running for president.
“No, that’s not my intention. I’m not a politician.” “My goal has never been to be in politics. As a matter of fact, there’s a lot about politics that I hate.” He cited his responsibility as a father, “I love being a daddy and that’s the most important thing to me is being a daddy, number one, especially during this time, this critical time in my daughters’ lives.”
It is a sad day indeed for the 46% of respondents in the Pipslay Survey who would have gladly welcomed the half-Black, half-Samoan star in the Oval Office as President.
It is also a blow for the Biden-Harris government, which will be facing Trump in November.
With 56% of people disapproving of the current POTUS performance, this will be a testing time as the President vies for a second stint in The White House.
