Fitness Pros Weigh in on Miley Cyrus’ Toned Arms and Healthy Body at the Grammy’s

Miley Cyrus wowed audiences at the recently concluded Grammys, not just because of her vocal prowess but also because of her chiseled figure.

The 31-year-old Grammy winner, who won the Best Record of the Year award, gained plenty of attention for her ripped appearance. It was reported that the “Flowers” hitmaker started her fitness journey in 2012, shortly before she released one of her most controversial hits, “Wrecking Ball.”

The Hannah Montana star credited Pilates for her toned physique. A century-old collection of full-body exercises, Pilates is designed to improve one’s strength and muscle stability. The question many are wondering now is, can Pilates really be responsible for such a transformation?

Vivian Yu, who owns a gym, said, “Pilates is an amazing workout for the entire body, targeting core strength, flexibility, and overall muscle tone. It’s not just about a six-pack; Pilates workouts target the entire body as well, including exercises involving pushing, pulling, and holding movements engaging the upper body parts such as arms.”

Vivian believes that Pilates is not the only exercise behind Miley’s toned arms. “Pilates is not the sole approach for toning the arms. In addition to that, strength training exercises like dumbbell curls, tricep dips, and push-ups can be quite effective as well.”

She added, “These exercises target the arm muscles more directly, and when combined with Pilates, can create a well-rounded workout routine that not only tones the arms but enhances overall physical fitness.”

The best assumption so far is that Miley combined pilates with strength training, a powerful combination that helps increase muscle mass by up to three pounds in two months.

Adding another form of workout, like cardio, can speed up the process although this would still depend on an individual’s body, lifestyle, and eating habits.

Vivian reiterated, “You need consistent exercise, responsible nutrition, and patience to acquire toned arms like Miley’s. Everything is about finding the right mix of habits that work for your body and sticking to them.”

Another pilates expert, Kamille McCollum, shared her thoughts. “Results like Miley’s come from consistent practice. Integrating Pilates into your routine 3 to 4 times a week can lead to visible changes in arm definition within a few months,” she said.

Aside from Pilates, the actress/singer is also known to be a huge Ashtanga yoga fan. Ashtanga is a form of yoga that develops cardiovascular strength. Miley practices it for two hours a day. She has been open about her practice and even mentioned it during an interview with late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon.

Miley told Jimmy, “The thing about Ashtanga yoga is that sometimes it can be uninspiring because the teacher will say, ‘Oh, don’t worry, it’s just going to take you 10 years. And you’re like, ‘wait, what?” 

When it comes to her diet, Miley was previously vegan. After experiencing brain fog and severe joint pain, however, she decided to be a pescatarian and introduced fish into her diet.

Like many celebrities, Miley takes her diet and exercise regimens to the extreme but she’s come a long way. The star has previously admitted to struggling with alcohol and marijuana. In 2020, she announced that she had been living clean and fully intends to stay that way.
