Fans Find Easter Egg in Lamar’s Drake Diss Track
Are you familiar with Kendrick Lamar’s new song “Euphoria?”
Its blistering response to Drake’s “Push Ups” has everyone talking. Released last April 30, the multi-layered track is seemingly a nod to the Zendaya-led HBO show of the same name which was famously co-produced by the Canadian rapper. It won some and lost some with hip-hop fans. Many have said that K-Dot’s revelations about Drizzy-Drake were nothing new.
But there has been a development since. Kendrick’s supporters have found Easter eggs. All you have to do is listen to “Euphoria’s” intro in reverse to unlock the hidden message that has fans going gaga.
Don’t worry. We won’t spoil the surprise for you. But we will give you a taste of what’s going on.
The song opens with a vocal sample that can be rewound to unearth a carefully hidden message that declares, “Everything they say about me is true! I’m a phoney.”
Fans believe it references the 1978 movie adaption of The Wizard of Oz when the great wizard reveals that he is nothing more than a has-been politician. Moreover, those who’ve heard it think the message is a jab at Drake.
Apart from this little nugget, “Euphoria” is packed with lyrics that heavily reference Drake, labeling him a “manipulator and habitual liar.”
The 36-year-old musician also says “You make music that pacify ‘em.” The artist goes on to call Drake a “scam artist with the hopes of being accepted,” referring to his friendships with minors.
He also trash talks his parenting skills, “Giving him tools to walk through life like day-by-day, know nothing ’bout that / Teaching him morals, integrity, discipline, listen, man, you don’t know nothing ’bout that.”
Sheesh. What’s left? Apparently, a lot.
Llamar gave the rapper everything he asked for (and then some) by releasing “Taylor Made Freestyle.” The contentious track uses an AI-generated version of Tupac Shakur’s voice, prompting the deceased rapper’s estate to issue threats of a lawsuit against him.
Tupac’s estate wrote to Llamar, saying they were “deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and personality.” They also called it “a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time” in the cease-and-desist letter.
But let’s go back to the diss track because Llamar had more insults in store for Drake. He also brought up rumors that Drake got abdominal surgery, saying, “Let your core audience stomach that, then tell ‘em where you get your abs from.”
After all the negativity, Drake and Llamar have hinted that they have more damning secrets to expose about each other.
In response to Drake’s “S**t will probably change if your BM start to kiss and tell,” Kendrick wrote, “We ain’t gotta get personal, this a friendly fade, you should keep it that way….I know some s**t about n***as that make Gunna Wunna look like a saint.”
Jay Rock, who was Lamar’s TDE labelmate, was thoroughly impressed. Rock tweeted “N***a got fried like a nice golden brown wing lol”
“Dropped that n***a in that grease for 6 mins 40 something secs!!”, Rock gleefully wrote, proclaiming that Drake got cooked.
“Euphoria” has been topping the charts of Spotify and Apple Music.
