Emma Stone Swears She’ll Never Joke About Taylor Swift Again
Emma Stone learned her lesson the hard way after her statement about BFF Taylor Swift was taken out of context. The consequence? Extreme backlash by Swifties.
At the 81st Golden Globe Awards this year, Emma Stone won the Best Feature Actress award in a Comedy or Musical for her role in Poor Things. Taylor Swift, being the best friend she is, was seen giving the actress a standing ovation enthusiastically, which didn’t go unnoticed by many.
When asked about her moment in the spotlight by the press, Stone jokingly called Swift “an a-hole.”
“What an a**hole, am I right?” the La La Land actress joked. “I’ve known her for almost 20 years. I was very happy she was there and she was also nominated tonight, which was wonderful. And yes, what an a**hole,” she continued.
However, in a recent interview with a magazine, Stone suggested she regretted calling Swift that name. She acknowledged the backlash she received from Swifties and that she learned from her mistake.
She stated, “I definitely won’t make a joke like that again… because I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context.” She pointed at herself, saying, “What a dope.” Unbeknownst to many, the friendly teasing is just a small part of their friendship.
Although the two have been friends since 2008 when they met at the Young Hollywood Awards, they are pretty private about their friendship. During an interview, Stone mentioned how long they’ve been friends and what Swift has done for her.
The Easy-A actress revealed that she and the “Blank Space” singer have been friends for over 20 years. She said, “I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18.” Stone also revealed that Swift recently hooked her up with Era’s Tour concert tickets as well.
“The concert was pretty amazing. I was lucky ’cause we’ve been friends for a really long time…so she hooked me up, which was very nice ’cause I know those tickets are impossible to get,” the actress admitted.
Stone continued to praise Swift, “She’s a wonderful friend. She blows my mind. I mean, the amount of sheer stamina to do three and a half hours and perform 44 songs and to maintain the extreme energy of the audience—I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Now, isn’t that just cute?
Emma’s 2016 film, La La Land, showed off Emma’s singing and dancing chops. She quickly turned down the idea when asked if she would ever join Taylor on stage for a duet. “Oh, God, hell no! I can’t sing, like, for a massive stadium. Let’s not even go down that road. She has insane talent—I could never do what she does!” she added.
Although things were taken out of context, many fans hope to see more of Stone and Swift’s friendship, as they do with Swift and Blake Lively. From what fans see, it seems like the two share a loving, fun, and cherished relationship.
Another hilarious moment at the Golden Globes included Jeniffer Lawerence (obviously). She mouthed, “If I don’t win, I’m leaving,” when the camera panned to her. But, of course, she soon joined in on the celebration as Swift supported Emma.
