Eight Years of Legal Battles: Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Finally Reach Divorce Settlement

After an exhausting eight-year legal battle, Hollywood icons Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finalized their divorce, bringing closure to one of the most publicized separations in entertainment history.

Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. This came after an incident aboard a private jet where she alleged Pitt was abusive—a claim he has consistently denied. Investigations by the FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services resulted in no charges against Pitt.

Custody and Château Miraval Main Disputes

The divorce proceedings were further complicated by disputes over the custody of their minor children and the division of substantial assets — notably their $164 million French estate and winery, Château Miraval. In 2021, a judge granted both actors joint custody of their children, a decision that was later contested and led to additional legal wrangling.

A significant point of contention was Jolie’s sale of her stake in Château Miraval to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, in October 2021. Pitt filed a lawsuit in February 2022, alleging that the sale was made without his consent and was part of a “vindictive” strategy. Jolie’s legal team countered, asserting that there was no agreement requiring mutual consent for the sale and that she sought financial independence post-separation.

The exhaustive legal battle has taken a toll on both parties. Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, stated, “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time, she has focused on finding peace and healing….Frankly, Angelina is exhausted but relieved that this one part is over.”

Moving Forward: A Chapter Ends, But Legal Disputes Continue

The divorce settlement finally closes the chapter on Brad and Angelina’s marriage, but the drama isn’t over. Jolie recently won a court ruling to force Pitt to share evidence that apparently could prove her claims of abuse. Meanwhile, Pitt’s lawsuit over Château Miraval is heading to trial.

As they move on, both stars are keeping busy. Pitt has been linked romantically to jewelry executive Ines de Ramon since 2022, while Jolie continues her acting career and humanitarian work. Despite the legal and personal turmoil, the well-being of their children remains their priority.
