Doja Cat Offended by Social Media Comments, Deactivates Her Instagram

Over the weekend, Doja Cat decided to say goodbye to Instagram and deactivated her account. She announced to her followers that her abrupt exit was primarily due to how she was being treated and spoken about on the platform.

Fans believe that the 28-year-old “Paint the Town” singer is extra sensitive these days because she is mending a broken heart from boyfriend J. Cyrus.

As she announced her break from social media, Doja Cat shared a weird picture online of a stone crab claw holding a cigarette. She captioned the photo with, “Hey, I’m gonna deactivate because I’m not really feeling this anymore. You guys take care of yourselves.”

After a while, the star—whose real name is Amala Dlamini—made some changes to her message and added, “I like coming here to find inspiration and see people being creative, but I just feel this is getting to be too much.”

Doja Cat again edited her caption and wrote, “The way I’m spoken to on here and treated makes me have f****d up thoughts. Please watch how you talk to and about people on the internet. Bye.”

Her followers, who are referred to as “Kittenz,” speculated that Doja Cat’s sudden exit from the social media site could be associated with her ongoing relationship problems with J. Cyrus. When social media users claimed they had seen Doja Cat’s account on the celebrity dating app Raya, it only fanned the flames.

Recall that Doja and J. Cyrus were first seen together in November 2022, but rumors about their relationship only surfaced in May 2023 when they were spotted in New York City having dinner.

Doja Cat’s rumored relationship with the social media comedian didn’t sit well with some of her followers because of J. Cyrus’s bad record. Their relationship even caused a rift between Doja Cat and her followers. They said that they were just trying to protect the artist after hearing news that her beau had been emotionally abusive and manipulative to his previous female Twitch followers.

Some of Doja Cat’s devoted fans criticized her openly on social media. The rapper responded by calling them “creepy,” much to the frustration and disappointment of her fans.

Although these Tweets have been long deleted, Doja wrote, “My fans don’t get to name themselves s***. If you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or ‘f****** kittenz’, that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house.”

The rift caused Doja Cat to lose a significant 250,000 Instagram followers days after her Tweet. If this wasn’t enough, the American singer then uploaded an image of a road and captioned it with, “Seeing all these people unfollow me makes me feel like I’ve defeated a large beast that’s been holding me down for so long…”

She added, “And it feels like I can reconnect with the people who matter and love me for who I am and not for who I was. I feel free.”

Since news emerged that Doja Cat and J. Cyrus are no longer together, many fans celebrated and took the news with happiness. Some even commented, “We won!”

But others were not quick to forgive, especially after reflecting on how they were treated by their idol. They wrote, “Her breaking up with that man doesn’t change the behavior she displayed while she was with that man, by the way (and she still chose to be with him to begin with), but now everyone will not care [again].”
