Does the Song “Telephone” Have a Sequel? Beyonce and Lady Gaga Could Be Having Another Collab
Beyonce and Lady Gaga sparked rumors of another collaboration—a sequel to their hit song “Telephone,” which was released 14 years ago.
The 44-year-old “Crazy In Love” singer and the 37-year-old “Poker Face” hitmaker were both in attendance at last weekend’s Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. The Kansas City Chiefs took home the title and won after beating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22.
During the game, Grammy-winner Beyonce dropped the news about her Renaissance: Act II album as well as the release of her two new singles, “16 Carriages,” and “Texas Hold ‘Em.” The weekend caused plenty of social media craziness after many fans and followers theorized that Beyonce and Lady Gaga could be collaborating again by releasing a sequel to the chart-topping hit “Telephone.”
(Note that Lady Gaga also teased her fans that she was working on a new project last month.)
Recall that at the very end of their music video that was released in March 2010, the words “To Be Continued” were flashed on the screen. This caused many fans to speculate that a second song was in the works.
Many fans started going back and looking for clues. Entertainment group Just Jared supported the theory by claiming that a sequel had been planned all along.
The start of the music video shows Lady Gaga in jail on February 11, the exact date when the two singers attended the Super Bowl LVIII. The second hint was Virgin Mobile was featured in the video. Notably, Beyonce starred in a Verizon Super Bowl ad.
The “Formation” hitmaker also shared a teaser clip for her new album where she was shown driving through a desert. Recall that in their music video, the two ladies also traveled through a desert.
If these three clues aren’t enough, Beyonce’s latest single, “Texas Hold ‘Em,” has similarities to Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” which was released in 2008.
Part of the lyrics of her song was, “I wanna hold ’em like they do in Texas, please.”
At the Super Bowl, Lady Gaga held up two fingers—a possible reference to part two of their “Telephone” collab. In addition, the “Bad Romance” singer wore a jersey with the number 16 on it. Coincidentally, one of Beyonce’s newly dropped songs is called “16 Carriages.”
Many fans took to X to further speculate on what’s to come. One netizen wrote, “Lady Gaga does have a movie coming out this year (Joker 2), so this drop with Beyonce would make sense if it did happen this year.”
Another commented, “We need Lady Gaga x Beyonce – Telephone Part II!!”
Some are a bit dubious that a part two will happen. One user left the comment, “This footage of Lady Gaga and Beyonce is the closest we’re ever getting to the Telephone sequel.”
Despite the series of clues, neither has confirmed nor denied the possibility of a collab. Though the prospect that these two musical powerhouses might be getting together, only time will tell.
