Does Dakota Johnson Sleep 14 Hours Daily? Actress Sets the Record Straight
Actors and actresses are known to have demanding schedules with unusual hours, especially while filming. It’s thus no surprise that some of them try to get as much rest as possible. Earlier, Dakota Johnson, best known for playing Anastasia Steel in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, has been known to sleep up to 14 hours a night. While that may sound excessive, Dakota set the record straight on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Forty-nine-year-old Jimmy asked Dakota about an article that was published last December 2023 in The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). With the story headline, “Dakota Johnson Likes To Sleep for 12 Hours a Night,” Jimmy commented, “That’s a long time to sleep.”
In her defense, she said, “I didn’t even say that like that!”
Jimmy prodded, “That’s a long time. You like to sleep 14 hours?”
Laughing, the actress clarified, “No. I said that I could easily sleep 14 hours. But I don’t, like, demand it. I’m not a monster.”
Jimmy pointed out that The Wall Street Journal article in question was picked up by other publications like USA Today and Page Six, triggering an entirely new debate about the recommended length of sleep.
Dakota kept things light by dismissing the issue. “Why is sleep bad? Like, why? Leave me alone. I’m just asleep,” she said
Regardless of how long Dakota actually sleeps, Jimmy was in complete agreement that getting 14 hours of sleep is a fantastic treat.
Dakota added, “I don’t have to take anything to sleep like that either; I can just sleep like that. I think if I took like an Ambien, I think I’d wake up next year.”
Last December, Dakota shared with WSJ that sleep is her top priority and that she also practices meditation to manage her anxiety. Sharing more insights into her sleeping routine, she admitted, “I don’t have a regular [wake-up] time. It depends on what’s happening in my life. If I’m not working, if I have a day off on a Monday, then I will sleep as long as I can. Sleep is my number one priority in life.”
Dakota admitted to the publication that she is not fully functional if she gets less than 10 hours of sleep and that she can quickly go for 14 hours.
Dakota’s movie, which is scheduled for a February 14 premiere, is about Cassandra “Cassie” Webb, otherwise known as Madame Web. The movie narrates the emergence of the Marvel superhero character whose storyline in the comics interlaces with Spiderman’s. In the Marvel universe, Cassandra Webb is a paramedic with the ability to see the future.
Joining Dakota in the film are Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, and Tahar Rahim. The film is set in the year 2003 before Spiderman existed.
Dakota’s other films include Persuasion, The Five-Year Engagement, 21 Jump Street, Beastly, The Social Network, and All That Glitters. Born in Austin, Texas, she is the daughter of celebrity parents Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.
