Christopher McDonald Teases Return In “Happy Gilmore 2” With Adam Sandler

Christopher McDonald is back on the green, and he couldn’t be more thrilled. The actor, now 70, is officially reuniting with Adam Sandler in the highly anticipated Happy Gilmore 2, and he says it feels like coming home after nearly three decades.
At the New York City premiere of Fountain of Youth on May 19, Christopher said he was “was over the moon to be asked to be in” the upcoming movie.
“I’ve been an ambassador for this movie for so long — 29 years later, and we’re still here!”
In the original 1996 comedy, Christopher stole scenes as Shooter McGavin, the smug rival to Adam’s unlikely hockey-player-turned-golf-hero, Happy Gilmore. Now, he’s dusted off his clubs and his classic trash talk for round two. But don’t expect him to spill any secrets about the storyline just yet.
“I signed an NDA,” he said, laughing. “This is kind of a big deal.”
Directed by Kyle Newacheck, the sequel sees Adam, 58, returning as both star and co-writer alongside longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy. And it’s not just a boys’ club reunion — Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, and Dennis Dugan are back too, with fresh faces like NFL star Travis Kelce and music icon Bad Bunny joining the fun.
For Christopher, Happy Gilmore 2 is about family and friends and love – “a lot of heart, which is what I love about Adam Sandler’s movies.”
“What I love about Adam Sandler is his heart. He’s got so much love for people… And he’s done some amazing work in the last few years. So I’m very happy for him.”
And yes, Christopher is still swinging clubs — on and off screen. But when asked whether Shooter’s golf game has aged like fine wine or taken a nosedive, he kept things coy. “Oh, that’s part of the plot,” he teased. “We shot it mostly in New Jersey and just had a great time.”
Happy Gilmore 2 lands on Netflix July 25, and if Christopher’s excitement is anything to go by, fans are in for a hole-in-one kind of ride.
