Apple Martin: From Designer Gowns to Mean Girls Controversy
Apple Martin, the 20-year-old daughter of Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, is no stranger to the spotlight. Between her appearances at exclusive events and her budding fashion career, she’s already carving a path in high society. But a recent appearance at Paris’s famed Le Bal des Débutantes has landed her in hot water, with the internet accusing her of some serious “mean girl” behavior.
Star-Studded Debut Turns Sour
On Saturday, Apple attended the glamorous Le Bal des Débutantes, held at the opulent Hotel Shangri-La, where rooms can cost upwards of $1,000 a night. Dressed in a stunning custom sky-blue Valentino gown, she joined 19 other young women from elite families for the prestigious event. But her shining moment took a turn when a TikTok video showed Apple stepping in front of another debutante during a photoshoot.
In the video, the fellow debutante was posing for her picture when Apple confidently walked into the frame, striking a pose with her hands on her hips. The other woman awkwardly exited the shot, laughing nervously. The clip, shared by Paris Match, sparked online backlash.
Internet Calls Out Apple
Social media users quickly dubbed Apple a “mean girl.” One user on X wrote, “Apple Martin was a mean girl at the Ball…what an ego.” On TikTok, another quipped, “Mean girl of a teenage film vibe.”
Others pointed fingers at her famous parents, with one comment reading, “Poor parenting! No matter personal wealth, basic manners is the backbone of good parenting. Cut off her means and make her work in the real world.” Another user remarked, “Talk about the epitome of elitism! And the parents claim they stand for inclusivity.”
Adding fuel to the fire, some netizens dredged up rumors about Apple’s past, including allegations that she was suspended from Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles for bullying. “She has had ‘mean girl’ rumors chasing her for years,” one commenter noted.
A Fashion Darling on the Rise
Despite the controversy, Apple’s ascent in the fashion world seems unstoppable. She made a splash at Paris Fashion Week in January 2023, sitting front row at Chanel’s haute couture show in a chic black-and-white ensemble. According to journalist Derek Blasberg, late Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld even labeled Apple a “Chanel girl” when she was only four years old.
Apple’s resemblance to her mother hasn’t gone unnoticed. The pair frequently post selfies together and are often photographed at events, including a summer party in the Hamptons hosted by Gwyneth’s lifestyle brand, Goop.
