Andrew Garfield Brings Cardboard Cutout of Co-Star Florence Pugh to London Film Premiere
The London Film Festival kicked off on October 9th, with several prominent A-listers in attendance. However, one actor’s no-show due to clashing schedules prompted her co-star to bring a rather unorthodox date to the event.
Andrew Garfield, 41, showed up to the red carpet on Thursday with a cardboard cutout of 28-year-old Florence Pugh, much to the amusement of photographers and fans.
At one point, Garfield was seen holding up the cutout for photographers to get a closer look, while in another, he shows the cut-out off from a distance with arms outstretched.
The Little Women actor, who was away on another shoot, couldn’t be present to promote the duo’s new film We Live in Time. “It truly hurts not being there to celebrate the release, but I’m raising a glass from very far away,” Pugh initially posted to her story.
When she realized that a version of her had, in fact, attended the premiere, the actor was quick to respond. “Lol. Simply genius,” she wrote in a subsequent story, along with an image of her co-star carefully holding the cutout.
We Live in Time
While Garfield’s shenanigans are drawing laughs, the Pugh and Garfield starrer, We Live in Time, deals with a more serious subject matter. In the unconventional love story, we’re told the story of a young chef, played by Pugh, who is diagnosed with cancer.
Garfield plays the partner and the father of their three-year-old daughter.
So far, the film has been met with mixed reviews. Some have praised the couple’s on-screen chemistry and the movie’s intriguing subject matter. Other’s, however, were disappointed by what they felt was a lackluster romance.
We Live in Time hasn’t been the only attention-grabbing film at the festival.
The must watch line-up at the 11-day event includes Queer, a Daniel Craig-starrer based on a William Burroughs book by the same name.
The 1940s drama is set in Mexico and was directed by Luca Guadagnino (Bones and All). The film is already raising eyebrows for its explicit scenes and gripping narrative.
Another star in the spotlight is Amy Adams, whose new film Nightbitch, has been praised by some, but left many others confused. The film — which is also, incidentally, based on a novel — follows the story of a mother who believes she’s turning into a dog.
The BBC has called the film both bizarre and brilliant.
