The Voice Alum Ryan Whyte Maloney Kills Himself After Heated Argument

The music world is mourning the tragic loss of The Voice alum Ryan Whyte Maloney, who died from a gunshot wound to the head on Tuesday, January 28. Reports have surfaced detailing a heated argument between Maloney and his fiancée moments before his passing.
According to a police report, Maloney performed earlier that night at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The singer was allegedly intoxicated when an argument broke out between him and his fiancée on their way home. The dispute seemingly began over something as trivial as a missing jacket.
When Maloney’s fiancée asked whether he had her jacket, he denied it. However, as she continued questioning him, he became irritated and allegedly called her a “bitch.” According to the police report, the 44-year-old then reached into the glove compartment, retrieved a gun, and abruptly exited the vehicle.
His fiancée heard a gunshot from inside the car. She rolled down her window and called out to him but he had already run off. As she chased after him, another gunshot rang out, and she watched in horror as his body fell to the ground.
Authorities arrived shortly after she placed a frantic 911 call, but it was too late. Maloney was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner later confirmed death by suicide.
Maloney’s Stint at The Voice
Fans of The Voice might recall Maloney for his impressive 2014 run on Season 6. His blind audition performance of Journey’s “Lights” earned a rare four-chair turn, and he ultimately chose Blake Shelton as his coach.
Throughout the competition, Maloney wowed audiences with powerful renditions of “Second Chance” by Shinedown, “Easy” by Rascal Flatts, and “What’s Love Got to Do With It” by Tina Turner. He made it to Shelton’s final five before being eliminated but later returned for the season finale.
After his time on The Voice, Maloney pursued his passion for music, frequently performing at Shelton’s Ole Red bar in Las Vegas, where he had a regular weekend residency. He released his first solo album, Where I’ve Been, in 2015 and continued to release new music.
Just a day before his passing, Maloney posted a video on Instagram Stories from a bar, where he appeared in good spirits. “Nine fine Irishmen for a private party tonight, and we will be rocking,” he told the camera.
His sudden and tragic passing has left fans and loved ones in shock. As the details of his personal struggles have come to light, Maloney’s legacy as a gifted musician will live on.
