Mick Jagger And Melanie Hamrick Are Engaged

Mick Jagger might be the ultimate rockstar, but his love story with Melanie Hamrick has a rhythm of its own, and now, it comes with a sparkling diamond ring.

Melanie, a former ballerina and author, recently revealed in a French interview with Paris Match that she and the legendary Rolling Stones frontman have actually been engaged for quite some time. “We’ve been engaged two or three years,” she shared casually, adding that despite the ring, there’s no rush to the altar. “Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything.”

The couple’s love story didn’t begin with fireworks — at least not immediately. They first met back in February 2014, backstage in Japan. Mick was touring with the Stones, and Melanie was on the road with the American Ballet Theatre. “Maybe a spark,” she said of their first meeting, “but nothing incredible, like, ‘Come on, I’ll blow your mind and we’ll travel the world.’”

According to Melanie, they didn’t even exchange numbers.

That spark, however, turned into something much more a few months later when Mick invited her to join him in Zurich. By 2016, the couple welcomed their son, Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger — Mick’s eighth child. And according to Melanie, the little guy definitely inherited the showbiz gene. “He dances a ton,” she told The New York Times in 2019. “He plays the ukulele and makes up songs. He’s got the gene. Definitely. I really want him to take tap. For a little boy to make some noise with his feet? He loves music classes.”

Though Melanie kept quiet for years about the significance of the dazzling ring on that finger, she joked with PEOPLE in 2022 about how she saw it. In her words: “I mean, I have to giggle because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for that finger? Yes. But are we like, horny teenagers where we’re giving each other… In my mind, it’s a promise ring. We’ll be immature and call it a promise ring.”

Melanie, 37, and Mick, 81, seem to have found their rhythm — balancing love, parenting, and careers with ease. She says the key to their connection is simple: “We try to support each other, be there for each other, and make sure everyone is happy. That’s all that matters to me and all I strive for.”

The pair even worked together in 2019 on Porte Rouge, a ballet that brought Mick’s music and Melanie’s choreography to the same stage. It was a passion project that sparked creatively, but Melanie prefers to keep their careers mostly separate. “We are in such similar careers, to keep it separate is better. You’re working with the person all day, and then you’re with them at night. It’s like, too much of each other,” she stated.
