Drew Barrymore Celebrates 21 Years of 50 First Dates With a Sweet Throwback

Drew Barrymore is feeling nostalgic! The actress and talk show celebrated the 21st anniversary of her beloved romantic comedy 50 First Dates by sharing a heartwarming throwback photo with her longtime co-star Adam Sandler.
The snapshot showed Barrymore and Sandler dressed in their iconic outfits from the fan-favorite scene where Henry Roth (Sandler) strums his guitar and serenades Lucy Whitmore (Barrymore) with the song “Forgetful Lucy.” The 2004 film, which hit theaters just in time for Valentine’s Day, became an instant classic, melting hearts with its unique love story. It follows the tale of a woman with short-term memory loss and the man who made her fall for him every single day.
A Rom-Com Classic
Directed by Peter Segal, 50 First Dates was a major hit, grossing $198.5 million worldwide on a $75 million budget. The movie also starred Rob Schneider, Sean Astin, Dan Aykroyd, and Maya Rudolph, bringing the perfect mix of romance and comedy to the big screen.
The film became a huge milestone in Barrymore and Sandler’s careers. For Barrymore, it followed blockbuster hits like Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and dark comedy Duplex. Meanwhile, Sandler was cast in films like Spanglish, The Longest Yard, and Click.
50 First Dates solidified Barrymore and Sandler as one of Hollywood’s most beloved rom-com duos, alongside the likes of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan or George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Their undeniable chemistry even won them Best On-Screen Team at the MTV Movie Awards that year.
Stronger Than Ever
Barrymore and Sandler’s bond has only grown stronger over the years. The duo reunited once again in 2014 for Blended, marking their third rom-com collaboration. They’ve become so close that their kids have even started enjoying their movies together.
On The Drew Barrymore Show in November, Barrymore revealed a touching moment when she caught her daughter watching 50 First Dates with Sandler’s child. “I was like, ‘Why are you guys watching this? Don’t you get enough of me and your dad?’” she joked. “And they were just so happy,” she told her show’s audience.
Could There Be a Fourth Film?
Barrymore isn’t ready to say goodbye to her rom-com tradition with Sandler just yet. She recently teased the idea of teaming up with him for a fourth film—this time bringing their mutual friend Jennifer Aniston into the mix.
“I’m so busy talking to him and Jennifer Aniston about doing a threefer, if you will,” she previously told ET. “I really want to make it happen. Timing is everything.”
Fans are waiting to see if Barrymore and Sandler will reunite for another romantic comedy masterpiece. In the meantime, their on-screen magic in 50 First Dates continues to capture hearts even 21 years later.
