Jacqueline Bisset’s Controversial Take on #MeToo Sparks Backlash

Hollywood veteran Jacqueline Bisset is facing backlash after issuing certain comments about the #MeToo movement. In a recent interview with Page Six, the 80-year-old actress admitted she feels “unsympathetic” toward women who came forward about sexual harassment in the industry.
“I understand as an idea, it’s important that men behave, but I do really think it’s important that women behave, too,” Bisset said, adding, “I think how you dress, your subtext is very, very important. It’s very dangerous and not to be played with.”
The #MeToo Movement’s Impact
The comments didn’t sit well with many, especially considering the impact of the #MeToo movement, which exploded in 2017 after Harvey Weinstein was accused of multiple instances of sexual misconduct. The movement led to a major reckoning in Hollywood, with women finally speaking up about abuse and toxic power dynamics in the industry.
Bisset, known for films like Casino Royale and Murder on the Orient Express, doubled down on her stance, saying that women “need to learn the word ‘no’ or the F-word or something and you have to do it and you can get through it without any problem.” She also claimed she was never sexually harassed, explaining, “I was very determined not to have anything happen to me and I was completely devoted to that idea.”
The Internet Reacts
The actress, who happens to be the godmother of Angelina Jolie (one of Weinstein’s accusers), has sparked outrage across social media. Critics are calling her comments outdated and dismissive of the struggles many women in Hollywood have faced.
One user didn’t hold back, writing, “This is by far one of the most ignorant comments I’ve ever heard in my lifetime. Miss Bisset should consider herself lucky that she never experienced any sexual misconduct because there [are] millions of women out there who have, and they have a right to speak out!”
Another disappointed fan added, “That’s disappointing. She can’t relate to women being manipulated sexually by narcissistic men in powerful positions just because it didn’t happen to her?”
A third critic simply stated, “Is she for real! Living in the dark ages!”
Bisset has yet to respond to the backlash, and it remains to be seen whether she’ll address the controversy or hold firm to her stance. Either way, her comments have reignited debates about #MeToo and the ongoing fight for accountability in Hollywood.
