Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag Take Legal Action Against LA Over Devastating Palisades Wildfire

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are making headlines again. The duo, known for their over-the-top personalities, has filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles and its Department of Water and Power (LADWP) after their Pacific Palisades home was destroyed in a wildfire.

According to a Rolling Stone report, the couple, alongside nearly two dozen plaintiffs—including Spencer’s own mother, Janet Pratt—filed the lawsuit on January 21. The group alleges that the city’s mismanagement of the water supply contributed to the catastrophic Palisades wildfire that ravaged their homes.

The lawsuit claims that LA and its water department neglected their duties, which led to an “inescapable and unavoidable consequence.” In legal documents obtained by Rolling Stone, the plaintiffs argue, “LADWP and City of Los Angeles had a duty to properly construct, inspect, maintain and operate its water supply system. The Palisades Fire was an inescapable and unavoidable consequence of the water supply system operated by LADWP and City of Los Angeles as it was planned and constructed. The system necessarily failed, and this failure was a substantial factor in causing Plaintiffs to suffer the losses alleged in this Complaint.”

The suit further claims that LADWP drained the Santa Ynez Reservoir—a crucial water source for the area—as a “cost-saving” measure, leaving hydrants dry and firefighting efforts severely hampered. As tanks emptied within just 12 hours, the fire became unstoppable, consuming not only Spencer and Heidi’s home but also the house belonging to Spencer’s parents.

Spencer’s sister, Stephanie Pratt, took to Instagram on January 7 to share the heartbreaking news. Posting a photo of the fire’s aftermath, Stephanie wrote, “Honestly looking for advice. I’m frozen in shock. How horrible for my sweet little nephews to watch their house disappear like this. They must be so scared and confused.”

Spencer and Heidi, who tied the knot back in 2008, share two sons, Gunner, 6, and Ryker, 13 months. Stephanie’s emotional post highlighted the young family’s trauma. “I am beyond heartbroken for my brother, Heidi & the kids. Just spoke to my dad—he tried to save my brother’s house, but the wind is so strong there was nothing he could do,” she wrote.

As the lawsuit unfolds, fans and followers will undoubtedly be keeping an eye on how their lawsuit plays out. For Spencer and Heidi, this battle isn’t just about rebuilding their lives—it’s about getting answers and seeking accountability for the losses they’ve endured.
