The couple, who wed in 2008, had allegedly purchased their new home prior to the election, anticipating the potential outcome. Now fully moved in, the duo is planning to sell their Montecito, California property, marking a definitive transition to life abroad.

DeGeneres, a longtime supporter of Kamala Harris, expressed her political stance in recent months, donating to Harris’s campaign and endorsing her on Instagram. In a post from August, Ellen shared, “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president.” 

Despite her vocal support, the election results didn’t go as hoped, prompting them to relocate.

Their decision to leave hasn’t gone unnoticed by critics. Trump supporters flooded DeGeneres’ social media with comments following the election. One user remarked, “Didn’t Ellen say she’d leave the country if Trump is elected?? 😭,” while another added, “Aren’t you supposed to be leaving the country by now?”

Degeneres’ Instagram activity around election time encouraged American citizens to exercise their right to vote. In a November 1 post, she urged followers to hit the polls, writing, “Let’s vote like our lives depend on it. Because they do!”
