Oscar-winning Actress Jennifer Lawrence Endorses Kamala Harris
Actress and producer Jennifer Lawrence, known for her radical political views, has gone on record to reveal why she’s endorsing Presidential candidate Kamala Harris. The Oscar-winning actress explained that she’s vouching for Harris because she knows the Vice President is going to fight for the reproductive rights of women.
According to Lawrence, “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I think she’s an amazing candidate, and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights. That’s the most important thing, is to not let somebody into the White House who is going to ban abortion.”
Lawrence has been a vocal advocate of women’s rights and expressed her political beliefs in the past. While she admitted to getting trolled online because of her lack of a high school degree, the award-winning actress said her education comes from storytelling. Many have criticized the actress, saying she does not have the thinking chops required to make political statements.
She, however, remains unfazed. In fact, through her production company, Lawrence is producing two documentaries focused on women’s rights. One of them, called Bread and Roses, will be directed by Sahra Mani, an Afghan filmmaker. Reportedly Malala Yousafzai is a co-producer of the film.
The other film, titled Zurawski v Texas, is a documentary based on the post-Roe v. Wade legal case. This one throws light upon the incident where 20 women sued the state of Texas because its anti-abortion laws prevented them from getting appropriate medical care. Zurawski v Texas will be co-produced by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton and is being backed by the dating app Bumble.
According to Lawrence, both films can be expected to be hard-hitting because she believes they deal with women’s rights issues that are controversial and therefore require representation. She also believes these films need to be made because it is about women “who have gone through what no human being should ever, ever endure.”
She further reinforced that she’s producing these films to “put it on display so that it doesn’t happen to other women.” Given her stance on abortion rights and women’s rights, the endorsement of Kamala Haris does not come as a surprise.
She is one of the many celebrities who have expressed their support for Harris. The current Vice President of America is being endorsed by many others, including the likes of musician Taylor Swift, Scarlett Johansson, and Oprah Winfrey.
