Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán Have Filed for Divorce After 21 Years of Marriage
In a joint post on Instagram, Leah Remini (54) and Angelo Pagán (56) announced that they have filed for divorce.
The statement reads: “Well, here we are. After 28 years together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce. This decision came after a lot of thought and care, and as hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us. We are proud of how we have worked through this together.”
Remini and Pagán first met at the Cuban restaurant El Floridita in Los Angeles in 1996. Pagán was performing with a salsa group, and Remini said it was love at first sight: “I saw him across the room and was like, ‘Damn! What time do you get off?’” Remini called herself a “groupie.”
Remini and Pagán got married at the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas in July 2003. Their daughter, Sofia, was born the following year.
In 2013, Remini and Pagán publicly left the Church of Scientology after more than 30 years in it. Remini has since produced a documentary series (Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath) and published a book (Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology) exposing the corruption and abuse within the Church.
In 2023, the couple helped their daughter Sofia move into her college dorm. In the divorce announcement, Remini and Pagán state how proud they are of raising her: “We think a marriage that lasted this long and created so many beautiful memories, especially raising our incredible daughter, is something to celebrate. From our perspective, this marriage was a huge success. And now, we’re looking forward to creating even more cherished moments—just in a different way.”
The couple also wrote that they will still be a family: “Yes, we’re sad, and we’ve got some figuring out to do as we continue to move forward into our new normal—together still in many ways, and apart in some new ones. But here’s the thing: we’ve been best friends for so many years. We are still celebrating holidays together, watching our favorite tv shows together, and gathering as a family.”
The end of their announcement said they are sharing their journey to give people access to different kinds of relationship stories and difficult decisions that many couples make every year. “We hope our journey can inspire others to see that relationships—whether they change or end—aren’t failures.”
